Contents page (pictured) is nearly detached and has wear to inner edges, , some mild foxing and marking within else contents in good general condition.

Small 8vo, pp [4], 184, [2, adverts], final blank present, bound in contemporary unlettered sprinkled calf, sides and spine with gilt rule, raised bands, slightly worn at corners and spine ends, name cut from head of front free endpaper, else a very good clean tight copy, FIRST COLLECTED EDITION, the usual small octavo issue with 'Langhorne' within rules on the title page; one of the most popular and oft reprinted poetical volumes of the 18th Century, edited and with a valuable biographical introduction by the late author's friend John Langhorne. This essentially unsophisticated copy is interesting in having an original press cutting to the front paste-down, probably from the Sussex Advertiser of 1795, recording the unveiling of Flaxman's memorial to Collins in Chichester Cathedral, together with William Hayley's 'elegant epitaph' of 20 lines of verse 'Ye who the merits of the dead revere', probably its first appearence in print.
