wa jeh have appeared regularly in our pages for a series of years I've given a perm, by ena manter to the Christian Journal, and d ́abties his watchful eye, his reads penu and shrewd discrimination of passing events, will as b-retofore, plarly ister to our information During the year to which we now look forward, and on which, if God spare ns, we simil woon enter, we intend to make the Journal, more than ever. a periodical for the family and the fireside. Even the busiest in this bustling and struggling world have occasionally a leisure hour, but rarely more. It is desirable that these intervals of quiet be profitably filled up, and not permitted to exist as blauks in personal'or domestic history. We mean, then, to set ourselves to provide for these moments of life, by furnishing extracts from the best and popular writers of the day, from a consciousness that in so doing, we shall not only furnish a measure of information regarding the progress of literature, but become instrumental in planting seed-thoughts, germs of great principles, which will enlarge and enlighten the heart, and contribute, under God, to mould the views of the rising generation, and regulate the in-goings and outgoings of riper years. Our Bible queries have, this year in particular, engaged the attention of the young to a larger extent than previously, and we purpose to keep them specially in view in the working out of our plans next year. We have an arduous and responsible, but pleasant task in hand. Encouraged by proofs of past success, we commit ourselves again to the confidence and kindly regards of our friends, and more especially to the grace of Him who has honoured us thus to minister to the edification of His people. 5, ST.
