Fallo, fefelli, falfum, to deceive. But refello, refelli, to confute, wants the fupine.

3. Vello, velli, or vulfi, vulfum, to pull or pinch. Se a-, con-, e-, inter-, præ, re-vello. But de-, di-, per-vello, have rather velli.

Sallo, falli, falfum, to falt. Pfallo, pfalli,to play on a mufical inftrument.

Tollo, to lift up, to take away, in a manner peculiar to itself, makes fuftuli and sublātum; Extollo, extuli, elātum ; but attollo, to take up, has neither preterite nor fupine.

MO has ui, itum; as,

Gemo, gěmui, gemitum, to groan. So ag-, circum-, con-, in-, re-gemo.

Fremo, fremui, fremitum, to rage or roar. So af-, circum-, con-, in., per fremo.

Vŏmo, evŏmo, ui, -itum, to vomet or spew, to caft up.

Căno, cecini, cantum, to fing But the compounds have cinui and centum; as, accino, accinui, accentum, to fing in concert. So con-, in-, præ-, fuc-cino; oc-cino and occăno; re-cino and re-căno.

Temno, templi, temptum, to defpife. So contemno : But the preterite and fupine of the fimple verb are fcarcely used. 2. Sperno, fprēvi, sprētum, to difdain or flight.

Sino, sīvi, or fii, situm, to permit. So desino, desīvi, oftener defii, desitum, to leave off.

Lino, līvi, or lēvi, litum, to anoint or daub. So al-, circum-, col-, de-, il-, inter-, ob-, per-, præ-, re-, fub-, fubter-, fuper-, fuperil-lino.

Cerno, crēvi, feldom crētum, to fee, to decree, to enter upon an inheritance. So de-, dif-, ex-, in-, fe-cerno.

PO, QUO.

Verbs in po have pfi and plum; as, Carpo, carpfi, carptum, to pluck or pull, to crop, to blame.So con-, de-, dif, ex pra-cerpo.

Clěpo, to fleal.

Repo, to creep: Ad-, cor-,de-, di-, e-, ir-, intro-, ob-, per-, pro-, fub-repo.

Scalpo, to feratch or engrave. So

1. Quæro makes quæsivi, quæsitum, to feek. So ac-, an-, con-, dif-, ex-, in-, per-, re-quiro.

Těro, trivi, tritum, to wear, to bruise. So at-, con-, de-, dif-, ex-, in-, ob-, per-, pro-, sub-tero.

Verro, verri, verfum, to fweep, brush, or make clean. So a-, con-, de-, e-, præ-, re-verro.

Uro, uffi, uftum, to burn. So ad-, amb-, comb-, de-, ex-, in-, per-, fub-uro.

Gero, geffi, geftum, to carry. So ag-, con-, di-, in-, pro-, re-, fug-gero.

2. Curro, cucurri, curfum, to run. So ac-, con-, de-, dif-, ex-, in-, oc-, per-, præ-, pro-curro, which fometimes double the first fyllable, and fometimes not; as, accurri, or accucurri, &c. Circum-, re-, fuc-, tranf-curro, hardly ever redouble the first fyllable.

3. Sero, sevi, sătum, to fow. The compounds which fignify planting or forwing, have sevi, situm; as, consero, consevi, consitum, to plant together. So af, circum-, de-, dif-, in-, inter-, ob-, pro-, re-, sub-, tran

sĕro.

Sero, to knit, had anciently serui, fertum, which its compounds ftill retain; as, afsero, afferui, affertum, to claim. So con-, circum-, de-, dif-, edif-, ex-, in-, intsr

sĕro.

4. Furo, to be mad, wants both preterite and fu pine.

Plecto, plexi, and plexui, plexum, to plait. So implecto.

Necto, nexi, and nexui, nexum, to tie or knit. So an-, con-, circum-, in-, fub-nect̃o.

Pecto, pexi, and pexui, pexum, to drefs or comb. So de-, ex-, re-pecto.

2. Měto, meffui, meffum, to reap, mow, or cut down. So de-, e-, præ-měto.

3. Pěto, pětīvi, pětitum, to feek, to pursue. So ap-, com-, ex-, im-, op-, re-, fup-pěto.

Mitto, mifi, miffum, to fend. So a-, ad-, com-, circum-, de-, di-, e-, im-, inter-, intro-, o-, per-, præ-, præter-, pro-, re-, fub-, fuper-, tranf-mitto.

Verto, verti, verfum, to turn. So a-, ad-, animad-, ante-, circum-, con-, de-, di-, e-, in-, inter-, ob-, per-, præ-, præter-, re-, fub-, tranf-verto.

Sterto, flertui, to fnore. So de-fierto.

4. Sifto, an active verb, to ftop, has fiti, ftatum: but fifto, a neuter verb, to stand still, has fiěti, ftatum, like fto. The compounds have fiti, and fitum; as, affifto, aftiti, affitum, to ftand by. So ab-, circum-, con-, de-, ex-, in-, inter-, cb-, per-, re-, fub-fifto. But the compounds are feldom used in the fupine.

VO, XO.

There are three verbs in vo, which are thus conju

gated:

1. Vivo, vixi, victum, to live.

re-, Super-vivo.

Solvo, folvi, folutum, to loofe.

re-folvo.

2. Texo, the only verb of this conjugation ending in

xo, has texui, textum, to weave.

Fourth Conjugation.

Verbs of the fourth conjugation make the preterite

in ivi, and the fupine in itum; as,

to be fold.

Sălio, sălui, and sălii, faltum, to leap. The compounds have commonly silui, fometimes filii or silivi, and fultum; as, transilio, transilui, transilii, and transilivi, tranfultum, to leap over. So ab-, af-, circum-, con-, de-, dif-, ex-, in-, re-, fub-, super-silio.

Exc. 2. Amicio has amicui, amictum, feldom amixi, to cover or clothe.

Vincio, vinxi, vinctum, to tie. So circum-, de-, e-, revincio.

Sancio, fanxi, fanctum; and fancivi, fancitum, to establish or ratify.

Exc. 3. Cambio, campfi, campfum, to change money.
