IN the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And 1

1 The beginning, &c.] The Lord possessed ME (" wisdom") in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Prov. viii. 22, 23, 24. The Lord hath made all things for himself. Prov. xvi. 4. For in those days (of the destruction of the temple, &c.) shall be affliction such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created. Mark xiii. 19. In the beginning was the Word. John i. 1. Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands. Heb. i. 10. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled of the WORD of life, declare we unto you. 1 John i. 1. 3.

God created, &c.] For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is. Exod. xx. 11. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth. Exod. xxxi. 17. But the Lord made the heavens. 1 Chron. xvi. 26. Thou (God) hast made the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all things that are therein; the seas and all that is therein. Neh. ix. 6. By his Spirit he hath garnished the heavens. Job xxvi. 13. I laid the foundations of the earth (said the Lord). Job xxxviii. 4. which thou hast ordained, what is man that thou art mindful of him? Ps. viii. 3. By the word of the Lord were the heavens made: and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. For he spake and it was done; he commanded and it stood fast. Ps. xxxiii. 6. 9. The heavens are thine; the earth also is thine: as for the world, and the fullness thereof, thou hast founded them. The north and the south, thou hast created them. Ps. lxxxix. 11, 12. The Lord made the heavens. Ps. xcvi. 5. O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: The earth is full of thy riches: Thou sendest forth thy Spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. Ps. civ. 24. 30. Ye are blessed of the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Ps. cxv. 15. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Ps. cxxi. 2. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Ps. cxxiv. 8. The Lord that made heaven and earth, bless thee out of Zion. Ps. cxxxiv. 3. For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth, and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited. Isa. xlv. 18. Who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die? And forgettest the Lord thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth? But I am the Lord thy God: I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people. Isa. li. 12, 13. 15, 16. Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth (saith God). Isa. lxv. 17. He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion. Jer. x. 12. Ah, Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched-out arm. Jer. xxxii. 17. He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding. Jer. li. 15. The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth. Zech. xii. 1. I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth (said Jesus). Matt. xi. 25. Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is (said the company of the apostles). Acts iv. 24. Ye should turn from these vanities (said Paul and Barnabas) unto the living God, which made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein. Acts xiv. 15. God that made the world, and all things therein, dwelleth not in temples made with hands. Acts xvii. 24. Because that which may be known of God is manifest in "them" ("the ungodly and unrighteous;") for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the cre

ation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead. Rom. i. 19, 20. For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things. Rom. xi. 36. But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things. 1 Cor. viii, 6. Unto me, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles: to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ. Ephes. iii. 8, 9. For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers; all things were created by him, and for him; and he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Col. i. 16, 17. (God) hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, by whom he made the worlds. Heb. i. 2. He that built all things is God. Heb. iii. 4. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God. Heb. xi. 3. By the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water. 2 Pet. iii. 5. These things, saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God. Rev. iii. 14. Thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Rev. iv. 11. And (the angel which John saw standing upon the sea, &c.) sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, aud the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein. Rev. x. 6. Worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. Rev. xiv. 7. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Rev. xxi. 6. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Rev. xxii. 13.

2 Without form, &c.] He (the Lord) stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing. Job xxvi. 7. He created it not in vain; he formed it to be inhabited. Isa. xlv. 18. I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. Jer. iv. 23. She (Nineveh) is empty, and void, and waste. Nah. ii. 10.
