2 He comes, with truth and mercy crown'd,
Beauty and strength his throne surround!
His love shall fallen man restore :
Let therefore heaven new joys confess,
Its heavenly mirth let earth express,
And ocean its applauses roar.

CHORUS.

Each mute inhabitant rejoice,
And for this triumph find a voice.

PSALM XCVIII.—(N.V.)

The Church extolleth the victory and mighty acts of her
Redeemer.

SING to our Lord a new-made song,
Who wondrous things hath done,
With his right hand and holy arm,
The victory hath won.

2 He hath throughout th' astonish'd world Display'd his saving might,

And made his righteous acts appear
In all the heathens' sight.

3 Of Israel, his love and truth
Have ever mindful been,

And earth's remotest parts, the power
Of Israel's God have seen.

4 Let then all earth's inhabitants
Their grateful voices raise,
And with one universal joy
Sound their Redeemer's praise.

PSALM XCIX.—(N.V.)

An exhortation to worship God.

COME worship at his sacred throne,
Exalt our God and Lord;

For He who holy is alone,
Should be alone ador'd!

PSALM C.-(0.V.)

All mankind admonished to join in praising God for their creation and preservation, for his mercy, truth, and goodness, which are unchangeable and everlasting.

1 ALL people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice,
Him serve with fear, his praise forthtell;
Come ye before Him and rejoice.

2 The Lord ye know is God indeed,
Without our aid He did us make,
We are his flock, He doth us feed,
And for his sheep He doth us take.

H

3 0 enter then his gates with praise, Approach with joy his courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless his name always, For it is seemly so to do.

4 For why? the Lord our God is good,
His mercy is for ever sure;

His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.

PSALM CII.-(N.V.)

The frailty of man, and the eternity and immutability of God.

1 OUR days fast hastening to an end,
Like to the evening shade,

Our beauty too, like withering grass,
With waning lustre fade.

2 But thy eternal state, O Lord,
No length of time shall waste,
The memory of thy wondrous works
From age to age shall last.

3 The strong foundations of the earth
Of old by Thee were laid;

Thy hands the beauteous arch of heaven With wondrous skill have made.

4 These soon shall perish; but Thou, Lord! For ever shalt endure ;

These like a garment fade, while Thou
Shalt be from change secure.

PSALM CIII.-(N.V.)

The Christian stirreth up his soul to the duty of devout thanksgiving to God for his mercies, temporal and spiritual.

My soul, inspired with sacred love,
God's holy name for ever bless,
Of all his favours mindful prove,
And still thy grateful thanks express.

2 'Tis He that all our sin forgives,

And after sickness makes us sound; From danger He our life retrieves,

By Him with grace and mercy crown'd.

3 The Lord abounds with tender love,
With unexampled acts of grace;
To chide, his wrath doth slowly move;
To save, his mercy flies apace.

4 Him then ye angels praise; Him bless
Ye creatures all; and thou, my heart,
To Him thy grateful thanks express,
And in his praises bear thy part.

PSALM CIV.—(N.V.)

The wisdom and providence of God magnified in the visible works of creation.

1 How various, Lord, thy works are found,
For which thy wisdom we adore,
The earth is with thy treasures crown'd,
Till Nature's hand can grasp no more.

2 The moon's inconstant aspect shews
Th' appointed seasons of the year,
Th' instructed sun his duty knows,
His hours to rise and disappear.

3 By Thee are fix'd the ocean's bounds,
The threat'ning surges to repel,
That they no more o'erpass their mounds,
Nor to a second deluge swell.

4 The various tribes of sea and land,
All in their common wants agree,
All wait on thy dispensing hand,
All have their daily alms from Thee.

PSALM CV.-(N.V.)

An exhortation to praise God and to seek Him continually.

1 SING praise to God; in lofty hymns
His wondrous works rehearse ;

Make them the theme of your discourse,
And subject of your verse.
