THE German version book has been written with the view to introduce the Student to the art of writing German. It contains English exercises for translating into German; and a Key has been annexed to every exercise to facilitate its version. A grammatical introduction has been added containing explanatory remarks on German Etymology with a complete list of the irregular verbs. The principle, that languages are to be taught more by practical instruction than by theoretical explanution, being sufficiently established. The Author, who wrote under its guidance, may dispense with any apology for the conciseness of his grammatical introduction, it is sufficient to assist the Student in writing the practical. exercises, and for this purpose only it has been written. In the list of irregular verbs, those which form their irregular tenses in one and the same manner, are placed together under the head of their model, and thus the difficulty of fixing them in the memory has been greatly facilitated.
