Amend the Licensing Act, 1921.

E it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the 5 same, as follows:

A.D. 1927.

1.—(1) The hours during which intoxicating liquor Permitted may be sold or supplied on week-days in any licensed hours on premises or club, for consumption either on or off the week-days. premises, shall be as follows, that is to say:

(a) As respects licensed premises and clubs within
the metropolis from eleven in the morning until
eleven at night, with a break of two hours
after twelve (noon):

(b) As respects licensed premises and clubs in a
city, a county borough, a town or populous
place, from half-past ten in the morning until
half-past ten at night, with a break of two
hours after twelve (noon):

(c) As respects licensed premises and clubs else-
where. from ten in the morning until ten at
night, with a break of two hours after twelve
(noon).

(2) The time at which the break of two hours after twelve (noon) is to be made shall be fixed in the case of 25 licensed premises and clubs by order of the licensing justices of the licensing district; and pending any decision under this subsection the break shall continue to be made at the same time as it may be made at the passing of this Act.

Permitted hours on Sundays.

Interpretation, &c.

2. The hours during which intoxicating liquor may be sold or supplied on Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday in any licensed premises or club for consumption either on or off the premises shall be as follows, that is to say: five hours, of which two shall 5 be between twelve (noon) and three in the afternoon, and three shall be, the hours between seven and ten in the evening; and, subject to this provision, the permitted hours on Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday shall be such as may be fixed in the case of licensed 10 premises and clubs by order of the licensing justices of the licensing district:

Provided that, pending any decision under this section, the permitted hours on Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday shall be the permitted hours on those 15 days at the passing of this Act:

Provided that in Wales there shall be no permitted hours for licensed premises on Sundays or on Christmas Day when it falls on a Sunday.

3.-(1) For the purposes of this Act:

(a) "The metropolis means the Metropolitan Police District and the City of London;

(b) "Town

Town" means a borough or urban district which is not a city or a county borough;

(c) Any collection of houses adjacent to a county 25
borough, city or town, shall be deemed to be
part of the county borough, city or town
after it has been declared so to be by an
order of the confirming authority having
jurisdiction in the place where the houses are 30
situated Provided that no borough or urban
district, whether including such adjacent
houses or not, shall be deemed a town, unless
it contains one thousand inhabitants;

(d)

Populous place" means any area with a 35 population of not less than one thousand, which by reason of the density of its population, the confirming authority of the county by order determine to be a populous place.

(2) Any order of the confirming authority of the 40 county for the purposes of this Act may be made from time to time at a meeting specially convened for the

purpose in manner provided by regulations, by the clerk A.D. 1927. of the peace, and any such meeting may be adjourned:

Provided that an order restrictive of a previous order shall not be made except on a revision after the 5 publication of a census.

Any order of the confirming authority of the county for the purposes of this Act with respect to a county borough, city, town or populous place, shall specify the boundaries of the county borough, city, town or populous 10 place.

As soon as may be after the publication of each census, the confirming authority of the county shall, at a meeting to be specially convened for the purpose, revise orders then in force within their jurisdiction, and 15 may alter or cancel any of those orders or may make such further orders, if any, as they shall deem necessary to give effect to the provisions of this Act.

4. (1) This Act shall not extend to Scotland or Extent and repeal.

Ireland.

(2) From and after the commencement of this Act, sections one and two of the Licensing Act, 1921, shall be repealed.

5.—(1) This Act may be cited as the Licensing Act, Short title,

(2) This Act shall be construed as one with the tion, and Licensing Acts, 1910 and 1921, and those Acts and this ment. Act may be cited together as the Licensing Acts, 1910 to 1927.

(3) This Act shall come into operation at the 30 expiration of fourteen days after the passing thereof.
