RESTRICTIONS BILL.

Clause 2.

Amendment proposed, in page 1, line 14, to leave out sub-section (1)-(Mr. Webb).-Question proposed, "That the words proposed to be left out down to the word 'is,' in line 15, stand part of the Clause."

Amendment, by leave withdrawn.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 1, line 15, to leave out all the words from the word "applies " to the word "comes," in line 17—(Mr. Rhys Davies).-Question put, "That the words proposed to be left out down to the word at,' in line 16, stand part of the Clause."-The Committee divided:

Another Amendment proposed, in page 1, lines 16 and 17, to leave out the words " at the passing of this Act," in order to insert the words "on the thirty-first day of December, nineteen hundred and twenty-four ”—(Mr. McEntee),-instead thereof.-Question, "That the words proposed to be left out stand part of the Clause,”—put, and agreed to.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 1, line 17, after the word "or," to insert the words "through the death of the tenant when there is no next of kin or through the voluntary action of the tenant"-(Mr. Rhys Davies).Question, "That those words be there inserted,"-put, and negatived.

Amendment made, in page 1, line 17, after the word "into," by inserting the word "actual"-(Mr. Neville Chamberlain).

Another Amendment proposed, in page 1, line 18, after the word "Act," to insert the words "or when the landlord of any such dwelling-house is in possession or comes into possession thereof as aforesaid, subject to a sub-tenancy of part thereof "-(Sir Philip Pilditch).— Question, "That those words be there inserted,"-put, and negatived.

Another Amendment made, in page 2, line 3, at the end, by inserting the words:

"Provided that where part of a dwelling-house to which the principal Act applies is lawfully sub-let, and the part so sub-let is also a dwelling-house to which the principal Act applies, the principal Act shall not cease to apply to the part so sub-let by reason of the tenant being in, or coming into, actual possession of that part, and if the landlord is in, or comes into, actual possession of any part not so sublet the principal Act shall cease to apply to that part,

notwithstanding that a sub-tenant continues in, or retains, possession of any other part by virtue of the principal Act"--(Mr. Neville Chamberlain).

Another Amendment proposed, in page 2, after the last inserted Amendment, to insert the words :

"Provided that in the event of any such dwellinghouse remaining unoccupied for a period of three months as from the passing of this Act or from the date when the landlord comes into possession, the principal Act shall again apply to it at the end of that period"-(Mr. Ede).

Question, "That those words be there inserted,”-put, and negatived.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 2, after the last inserted Amendment, to insert the words :-

"Provided also that where a landlord comes into possession under an order or judgment made or given after the passing of this Act on the ground of nonpayment of rent, the principal Act shall, notwithstanding anything in the foregoing provisions of this sub-section, continue to apply to the dwelling-house unless the court otherwise directs" - (Mr. Neville Chamberlain).

Question proposed, "That those words be there inserted."
