THE STANDING COMMITTEE ON SCOTTISH BILLS, to whom the TowN COUNCILS (SCOTLAND) BILL [Lords] was referred;-Have gone through the Bill and made Amendments thereunto.

TOWN COUNCILS (SCOTLAND) BILL [LORDS].

Clause 1.

Amendment proposed, in page 1, line 16, to leave out the word "or -(Mr. Asquith).-Question, "That the word 'or' stand part of the Clause,"-put, and negatived.

Another Amendment made, in page 1, line 17, after the word "Greenock," by inserting the words "or Paisley "(Mr. Asquith).

Clause, as amended, agreed to.

Clauses 2-6, agreed to.

New Clause ("Amendment of s. 52 of 63 and 64 Vic., c. 49")-(Mr. Solicitor-General for Scotland),-brought up, and read the first and second time, and added to the Bill.

Another New Clause ("Hours of polling ") brought up, and read the first time as follows:

"The hours of polling shall be from eight a.m. until 9 p.m."-(Mr. Kirkwood).

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Clause be read a second time."

Motion and Clause, by leave, withdrawn.
