PREFACE.

I HAVE been requested from time to time, by individual members of my congregation, to publish Sermons, which, when preached, excited their interest; but I have hitherto declined attending to the suggestion of partial friends from prudential, not to mention other, motives, the calls of my position leaving me little to spare for indulgence in the expense of authorship. But there being a growing feeling in the district, that it is not creditable to leave the tower of our church in its present unfinished state, and many
