2 O glorious time! when everywhere, Thy blessed gospel shall be known; And all who live, rejoicing, share The grace of thy beloved Son. Not one rebellious thought or word, Uprising, to offend thee, Lord.
3 Glory to thee, and peace to men! Glad hearts unceasing songs shall raise, One universal anthem then
Proclaim thine everlasting praise, When Christ the Lord assumes the throne, Thy word fulfilled, his travail done.
(See Music at the end, No. 4.)
1 FROM Greenland's icy mountains, From India's coral strand, Where Afric's sunny fountains Roll down their golden sand; From many an ancient river, From many a palmy plain, They call us to deliver
Their land from error's chain.
2 Shall we whose souls are lighted With wisdom from on high, Shall we to men benighted The lamp of life deny ? Salvation, oh, salvation!
The joyful sound proclaim! Till each remotest nation
Has learned Messiah's name.
3 Waft, waft, ye winds his story, And you, ye waters, roll, Till, like a sea of glory,
It spreads from pole to pole; Till o'er our ransomed nature The Lamb for sinners slain, Redeemer, King, Creator, In bliss returns to reign!
1 RISE, Sun of Glory, rise! And chase these shades of night Which now obscure the skies, And hide thy sacred light: Oh chase those dismal shades away, And bring the bright millennial day!
2 Send now thy Spirit down On all the nations, Lord; With great success to crown The preaching of thy word; That heathen lands may own thy sway, And cast their idol gods away.
3 Then shall thy kingdom come Among our fallen race,
And the whole earth become A temple of thy grace,
Whence pure devotion shall ascend, And songs of praise, till time shall end.
1 COME, Lord, and tarry not; Bring the long looked-for day, Oh! why these years of wasting here, These ages of delay.
2 Come, for creation groans, Impatient of thy stay,
Worn out with these long years of ill, These ages of delay.
3 Come, and make all things new, Build up this ruined earth; Restore our faded paradise- Creation's second birth.
4 Come, and begin thy reign Of everlasting peace;
Come, take the kingdom to thyself, Great King of Righteousness.
1 JESUS shall reign where'er the sun, Does his successive journey run;
His kingdom stretch from shore to shore, Till moons shall wax and wane no more. 2 For him shall endless prayer be made, And praises throng to crown his head; His name like sweet perfume shall rise With every morning sacrifice.
3 People and realms of every tongue Dwell on his love with sweetest song; And infant voices shall proclaim Their early blessings on his name.
4 Blessings abound where'er he reigns, The prisoner leaps to lose his chains, The weary find eternal rest,
And all the sons of want are blest.
1 SALVATION! oh, the joyful sound! 'Tis pleasure to our ears,
A sov'reign balm for every wound, A cordial for our fears.
2 Buried in sorrow and in sin, At hell's dark door we lay; But we arose by grace divine To see a heavenly day.
3 Salvation! let the echo fly,
The spacious earth around, While all the armies of the sky Conspire to raise the sound.
Glory, honour, praise and power, etc.
1 FATHER of Mercies, bow thine ear Attentive to our earnest prayer; Oh hear us when we ask that we Successfully may plead for thee.
2 Clothe thou with energy divine Our words, and let those words be thine; Teach us immortal souls to gain, Nor let us labour, Lord, in vain.
3 Let thronging multitudes around Hear from our lips the joyful sound, And light through distant realms be spread, Till Zion rears her drooping head.
1 WE will stand up for Jesus! As soldiers of his cross;
Lift high his royal banner,
It must not suffer loss: Manfully we would serve him, Against unnumbered foes; Our courage rise with danger, And strength to strength oppose.
