Another Amendment proposed, in page 1, line 27, at the end, to add the words :

"(4) Satisfactory evidence for the registration of the birth of a legitimated person can only be given by(1) an affiliation order; or

(2) an avowal made by the father on the occasion of the registration of the birth or of the baptism and recorded in the certificate, or made by the parents in writing at the time of the marriage, and transmitted to the Registrar-General within one year of the marriage.

In the absence of such evidence no illegitimate person shall be legitimated "-(Mr. Rawlinson).

Question, "That those words be there added,”—put, and negatived.

Clause, as amended, agreed to.

Clause 2.

Amendment made, in page 2, line 1, by leaving out Sub-section (1), and by inserting the words:—

"(1) A legitimated person shall as respects intes

tacies occurring after the first day of September,
nineteen hundred and twenty-four, be entitled to take
any interest in real or personal property in like
manner as if he or she had been born legitimate
(Sir Gerald Hohler),-instead thereof.

"(5) Nothing in this section shall give a legitimated person any rights interfering with those of legitimate children of either of his parents "-(Mr. Rawlinson).

Amendment made, in page 4, line 11, at the end, by adding the words :

"Nothing in this Act shall affect the operation or construction of any will (including a codicil) coming into operation before the commencement of this Act, or of any settlement or other disposition (not being a testamentary disposition) made before such commencement"-(Sir Gerald Hohler).

New Clause ("Rights of issue of illegitimate child dying before marriage of parents") (Sir Gerald Hohler), brought up, and read the first and second time, and added to the Bill.

Another New Clause ("Right of an illegitimate child and mother of illegitimate child to succeed on intestacy of the other")-(Sir Gerald Hohler), - brought up, and read the first and second time, and added to the Bill.
