AGRICULTURAL WAGES BILL.

Clause 2, further considered.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 37, at the end, to insert the words "provided that an employer shall not be liable to any penalty for paying wages at a rate less than the minimum rate to the worker in respect of whom an application for a permit has been made under this sub-section during the period that such application is before the committee unless the application shall have been considered and determined within fourteen days of the receipt thereof "-(Mr. Lamb).—Question proposed, "That those words be there inserted."

Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 40, to leave out all the words from the word "committee " end of sub-section, in order to insert the words "represent the full economic value of their labour "- (Marquess of Hartington),- instead thereof.-Question proposed, "That the words proposed to be left out stand part of the Clause."

Resolved. "That the Committee do now adjourn "--(Mr. Buxton).

Another Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 44, at the end, to insert the words "but in no case shall the committee fix a wage of less than thirty shillings per week for an able-bodied man "--(Mr. Emlyn-Jones).-Question proposed, "That those words be there inserted."

Amendment made, in page 3, line 22, by leaving out all the words from the word "notification" to the end of the sub-section, and inserting the words "of their decision "(Mr. Burton),-instead thereof.

Another Amendment made, in page 3, line 28, by leaving out all the words from the word "shall" to the end of the sub-section, and by inserting the words "as soon as practicable make such order as may be necessary for the purpose of carrying out the decision of the committee ". (Mr. Buxton),-instead thereof.

Another Amendment made, in page 3, line 40, by leaving out the word "confirming "- (Mr. Buxton).

Clause 4.

Amendment made, in page 4, line 17, after the word complaint," by inserting the words "after giving the employer an opportunity of making such representations as he thinks desirable "-(Mr. Buxton).
