While the latter Part of this annual Publication is devoted to thofe Sons of Genius, who at their leifure Hours prefer an Enigma to an E O Table; a Rebus to a Round at Cards; an Anagram to an Alehouse Revel; and innocent Recreation to all the Snares which Bacchus and Venus can lay to in-f trap their Votaries; this Part I dedicate to found and useful Knowledge; not without Hopes (as have the Pleafure of feeing my humble Endeavours in this annual Production, by an Increafe of the Sale as well as of kind and ingenious Correfpondents) it is kindly received, and that when Death fhall fummon me away to the Bar of everlafting Judgment, my Plea may be that my Time was not fpent in vain, but that while I fojourned in this Body, I faw and admired the Wonders of Creation; and while others, more particularly called thereto, have, by adding Learning and Ingenuity to the Truths of the Gofpel, indifputably proved not only his Existence, but his Care and Government of the World, and his Love alfo in the Redemption of Mankind; be it mine to fhew the Wonders of a God in his wondrous Works. O Lord, bow wonderful art thou in all thy Works; in Wisdom bft thou made them all; the Earth is full of thy Goodness. A few Lines which I have felected from the defervedly applauded Author of the Guardian, as they exprefs my Thoughts in better language than could do it myfelt, will, I hope, here not be unacceptable.
