CHORUS.

A-MEN.

483

I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies. Ps. cxix: 14.

1 On our way rejoicing as we homeward move,
Hearken to our praises, O Thou God of love!
Is there grief or sadness ?

Is our sky be-clouded ?

Thine it cannot be !
Clouds are not from Thee!

Cho. On our way rejoicing as we homeward move,
Harken to our praises, O Thou God of love!

2 If with honest-hearted love for God and man,
Day by day Thou find us doing what we can,

Thou who giv'st the seed-time wilt give large increase,
Crown the head with blessings, fill the heart with peace.

3 On our way rejoicing gladly let us go;

Conquered hath our Leader, vanished is our foe!
Christ without, our safety; Christ within, our joy;
Who, if we be faithful, can our hope destroy? Cho.

484 Be strong and of good courage, for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever

thou goest. Josh. i: 9.

I Onward, Christian soldiers,

Marching as to war,
With the Cross of Jesus

Going on before.
Christ, the Royal Master,

Leads against the foe,
Forward into battle

See, His banners go.
Cho. Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the Cross of Jesus
Going on before.

2 Like a mighty army

Moves the Church of God; Brothers, we are treading Where the Saints have trod; We are not divided,

All one body we,

One in hope and doctrine,

One in charity. Cho.

3 Crowns and thrones may perish,
Kingdoms rise and wane,
But the Church of Jesus
Constant will remain ;
Gates of hell can never

'Gainst that Church prevail; We have Christ's own promise, And that cannot fail. Cho.

4 Onward then, ye people,

Join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices,
In the triumph song -
Glory, laud and honour,

Unto Christ the King,
This through countless ages
Men and angels sing. Cho.

In the name of our God we will set up our banners. Ps. xxv: 5.
I Brightly gleams our banner, pointing to the sky,
Waving wanderers onward to their home on high!
Marching through the desert, gladly thus we pray,
Still, with hearts united, singing on our way,-

Brightly gleams our banner, pointing to the sky,
Waving wanderers onward to their home on high!

2 Jesus, Lord and Master, at Thy sacred feet,
Here with hearts rejoicing, see Thy children meet.
Often have we left Thee, often gone astray;
Keep us, mighty Saviour, in the narrow way.
Brightly gleams, etc.

3 Pattern of our childhood, once Thyself a child,
Make our childhood holy, pure, and meek, and mild.
In the hour of danger whither can we flee,
Save to Thee, dear Saviour, only unto Thee?

Brightly gleams, etc.

4 All our days direct us in the way we go,
Lead us on victorious over every foe:

Bid Thine angels shield us when the storm-clouds lower,
Strengthen, Thou, and save us in temptation's hour.
Brightly gleams, etc.

5 Then with saints and angels may we join above,
Offering prayers and praises at Thy throne of love;
When the march is over, then come rest and peace,
Heaven's loving service, joys that never cease.
Brightly gleams, etc.

Lift ye the Snow-white Banner, 4 Arm ye against the battle,

Wield ye the victor's sword,

Raise ye the Christian's war cry,

"The cross of Christ the Lord."

2 Fear not the din of battle,

Follow where He has trod

Watch ye, and strive, and pray, Peace shall succeed the warfare, Night shall be changed to day. Lift ye, etc.

Perfecting strength in weakness, 5 Fight, for the Lord is o'er you,

Jesus, Incarnate God.

Lift ye, etc.

3 Angels around us hover,

Succor in time of need,

Fight, for He bids you fight; There where the fray is thickest Close with the hosts of night.

Lift ye, etc.
