God worthy of all Praise.

1 E O my God,

WATTS.

Be thou exalted,ves, where angels dwell;

Thy power on earth be known abroad,
And land to land thy wonders tell.

2 My heart is fixed; my song shall raise
Immortal honors to his name;

Awake my tongue, to sound his praise,
His wondrous goodness to proclaim."
3 High o'er the earth his mercy reigns,
And reaches to the utmost sky;
His truth to endless years remains,

When lower worlds dissolve and die.

4 Be thou exalted, O my God,

Above the heavens where angels dwell; Thy power on earth be known abroad, And land to land thy wonders tell.

The Hosanna of Children.

ALMIGHTY Ruler of the skies,

Through all the earth thy name is spread, And thine eternal glories rise

Above the heavens thy hands have made.

2. To thee the voices of the young

Their sounding notes of honor raise;
And babes, with uninstructed tongue,
Declare the wonders of thy praise.
2 Amidst thy temple children throng
To see their great Redeemer's face;
The Son of David is their song,
And loud hosannas fill the place.

Perfect Praise in Heaven.

HEAVENLY Father, sovereign Lord,

Be thy glorious name adored;

Lord, thy mercies never fail:
Hail, celestial goodness, hail.

2 Though unworthy of thine ear,
Deign our humble songs to hear;
Purer praise we hope to bring,
When around thy throne we sing.
3 While on earth ordained to stay,
Guide our foosteps in thy way,
Till we come to dwell with thee,
Till we all thy glory see.

4 Then, with angel harps again,
We will wake a nobler strain;
There, in joyful songs of praise,
Our triumphant voices raise.

WATTS.

The Works of God recounted to Posterity.

1LET children hear the mighty deeds Which God performed of old,

Which in our younger years we saw,
And which our fathers told.

2 He bids us make his glories known,
His works of power and grace;
And we'll convey his wonders down
Through every rising race.

3 Our lips shall tell them to our sons,
And they again to theirs,
That generations yet unborn
May teach them to their heirs.

4 Thus shall they learn, in God alone
Their hope securely stands,

That they may ne'er forget his works,
But practise his commands.

PRAISE TO THE TRINITY.

Praise to the Trinity.

WATTS.

1

B

LEST be the Father and his love,
To whose celestial source we owe

Rivers of endless joy above,

And rills of comfort here below.

2 All praise to thee, great Son of God,
From whose dear, wounded body rolls
A precious stream of vital blood-
The fount of life for dying souls.

3 We give thee, sacred Spirit, praise,
Who, in our hearts of sin and woe,
Mak'st living springs of grace arise,
And into boundless glory flow.

4 Thus God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit, we adore -
That sea of life and love unknown,
Without a bottom or a shore.

WE give immortal praise

For God the Father's love

For all our comforts here,
And better hopes above:

He sent his own

Eternal Son

To die for sins

That we had done.

2 To God the Son belongs
Immortal glory too,

Who bought us with his blood
From everlasting woe:

And now he lives,

And now he reigns,

And sees the fruit
Of all his pains.

3 To God the Spirit's name
Immortal worship give,
Whose new-creating power
Makes the dead sinner live:

His work completes

The great design,

And fills the soul

With joy divine.

4 Almighty God, to thee

Be endless honors done,

The undivided Three,

The great and glorious One:

Where Reason fails, There Faith prevails,

With all her powers,

And Love adores.

Praise to the Trinity.

WATTS.

FImmortal praise we give,

ATHER of glory, to thy name

Who dost an act of grace proclaim,
And bid us, rebels, live.

2 Immortal honor to the Son,
Who makes thine anger cease;
Our lives he ransomed with his own,
And died to make our peace.

3 To thy almighty Spirit be
Immortal glory given,

Whose influence brings us near to thee,
And trains us up for heaven.

4 Let men, with their united voice,
Adore th' eternal God,

And spread his honors, and their joys,
Through nations far abroad.

5 Let faith, and love, and duty join
One general song to raise;

Let saints, in earth and heaven, combine
In harmony and praise.

Praise to the Trinity.

COME, thon Almighty King,

Help us thy name to sing,

Help us to praise;

Father all glorious,

O'er all victorious,

Come, and reign over us,
Ancient of Days.

2 Jesus, our Lord, descend;
From all our foes defend,

Nor let us fall:

Let thine almighty aid
Our sure defence be made,
Our souls on thee be stayed:
Lord, hear our call.

3 Come, thou incarnate Word,
Gird on thy mighty_sword;
Our prayer attend;

Come, and thy people bless;
Come, give thy word success;
Spirit of holiness,

On us descend.'"

4 Come, holy Comforter,
Thy sacred witness bear,
In this glad hour;
Thou, who almighty art,
Now rule in every heart,
And ne'er from us depart,
Spirit of power.

5 To thee, great One in Three,
The highest praises be,
Hence evermore;
Thy sovereign majesty
May we in glory see,
And to eternity

Love and adore.

H. M.

Praise to the Trinity.

10 Him who chose us first,
Before the world began;

To Him who bore the curse
To save rebellious man;

To Him who formed

Our hearts anew,

WATTS.

Are endless praise
And glory due.

2 The Father's love shall run
Through our immortal songs;
We bring to God the Son
The tribute of our tongues:

Our lips address

The Spirit's name,

With equal praise,

And zeal the same.

3 Let every saint above,

And angel round the throne,
Forever bless and love

The sacred Three in One.

Thus heaven shall raise
His honors high,

[ocr errors]

When earth and time
Grow old and die.
