Discusses the program of the Nazi regime to eliminate traces of the mass murders committed by the Germans and their collaborators in Eastern Europe. The preparations for "Aktion 1005" began already in January 1942, in the event of a possible military defeat. In June 1943, the first plan was executed in Lvov by special commando units. Similar commandos were deployed in Auschwitz, Chełmno, Bełżec, Treblinka, Sobibór, and Majdanek; the actions were totally secret. It was mainly Jewish prisoners who were forced to open the mass graves, haul out the corpses, and drag them to the funeral pyre. After cremation, they had to collect the jewelry and gold teeth, bury the remaining ashes, fill the empty graves with earth, and replant the terrain. When all that was done, the prisoners themselves were executed. "Aktion 1005" was carried out in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Serbia, Ukraine, and Belarus, mainly between autumn 1943 - autumn 1944.
