Use

E OP THE TABLE. The first column marked for inches, is the thickness or circumference of the cable to every halfinch from 3 to 24 inches ; the second, marked Cwt. qrs. for the hundred weights and quarters that it will weigh if 120 fathoms in length.

For instance : Suppose it be a cable of 141 inches ; look against 141 and you will find in the other column 52 cwt. 2 qrs, which shews that i20 fathoms of 141 inch cable will weigh 52 cwt. 2 qrs. and fo in 'others : and any quantity of a less length will weigh in proportion.

The present money of account in France is in Francs and Centimes or hundredths, In November, 1800, an English guinea was worth 25 fr. 75 cent, A Spanish dollar

To change francs to livres tournois. Rule, Multiply the francs by 81 and divide by 8© for livres,

EXAMPLE, Change 3756 francs to livres.

To change livres tournois to francse RULE. Multiply the livres by $0, and divide the product by 81 for francs.

RULE. Take one half of the fols and deniers, as if they were ins tegers ; this half is the number of centimés required.

When there is a remainder in dividing the fols, it is to be carried to the deniers, and reckoned to and not 12 ; add this io to the dem niers, and take one half of the sum for the remaining centime.

If the number of deniers be 10 or 11, they are to be reje&ted, and in place of them you are to add , to the number of fols preceding, and then annex a cypher to it; one half of this is the centimes required.

Sols and deniers are reduced to centimes by the preceding rule, and though the result is not accurate, yet from its fimplicity and concilenefs it is generally used,
