and which, when approved of by Synod, shall be printed in new editions, as a second Book of Hymns in our standard work.

Resolved, That the same Committee report on the expediency of publishing the Canons of the Church in the same volume.

The Committee reported, and their report was amended, adopted, and is as follows:

The Committee appointed on the expediency of adding Hymns, report,

That this Committee consider it expedient that additional Hymns should be added to the number contained in our Book; and, accordingly unanimously recommend to General Synod the adoption of the following Resolution :

That the Rev. Thomas De Witt, D. D., William McMurray, D. D., Isaac Ferris, and the Elders Peter D. Vroom, and John D. Keese, be a Committee to select from different collections now published, Hymns on a variety of subjects, to the amount of say one hundred, to constitute the Second Book of Hymns, to be added to those now in use, in all future editions of our Psalm and Hymn Book, and that said Committee report such selection to the next General Synod for their approbation.

Resolved, That the Committee above appointed, be authorised to make a more correct and copious index to the new edition of the Psalms and Hymns of our church, including such alterations in the titles as they may deem necessary.

The Committee further report, that, in their opinion, the Canons of the Synod of Dordrecht should be added to the Liturgy contained in our Psalm Book.

Resolved, That the Committee on Psalmody communicate to the several Classes under the inspection of this General Synod, on or before the 1st of April next, a list of the Hymns, their authors, the collections in which they are found, together with their number in said collection.

Resolved, That the sum of $50 be allowed to the Stated Clerk, as a salary for services rendered by him, including all expenses of transcribing and necessary travelling, to which he may be subject.

ARTICLE XXI.

Benevolent and Religious Institutions.

A communication was received from the Rey. J. J. Janeway, D, D., and Mr. Richard Duryee, Jun. a deputation of the American Sunday School Union, on the subject of the resolution adopted at their last annual meeting, to establish, in reliance on divine aid, a Sunday School in every district of the valley of the Mississippi, within the space of two years; which was referred to a Special Committee, consisting of the Rev. Messrs. J. Brodhead, D. D., J. Ludlow, D. D., and J. H. Van Wagenen.

The Committee reported, and their report was adopted, and is as follows:

The Committee to whom was referred a communication from the American Sunday School Union, presented by the Rev. Dr. Janeway and Richard Duryee, Jun., a deputation of said Sunday School Union, Report-That said communication contains information of a resolution adopted by the society at their late anniversary, "to establish Sunday Schools throughout that vast extent of country known as the valley of the Mississippi." The Committee are persuaded that this General Synod are fully sensible of the incomparable importance of Sunday Schools to the growing interest of that section of our common country; they therefore recommend for adoption the following resolution :

Resolved, That Synod rejoice in the measure that has been adopted by the American Sunday School Union, as well calculated to advance the kingdom of our Lord and Saviour, and to promote the temporal and spiritual interest of the inhabitants of that vast and important valley of the Mississippi; and that Synod hereby recommend the said object to the charities and benevolent efforts of the churches and people under their care.

A bill from the Stated Clerk, amounting to $13 10, for expenses incurred by him in the business of Synod, was presented, and referred to the Committee on Accounts.

The Door-keeper's bills, amounting to $12 42, were presented, and referred to the Committee on Accounts.

The Committee on Accounts reported, and their report was adopted, and is as follows:

The Committee on Accounts respectfully report—

That the account of the Stated Clerk, amounting to $13 10, has been examined, together with the accompanying vouchers, and approved, and it is recommended that the Treasurer be ordered to pay the same.

The Door-keeper's bills, amounting in whole to $12 421, are recommended to be paid.

In relation to the Doorkeeper's bill, it is recommended that a stated per diem allowance, of $1 25, be fixed by resolution, and uniformly allowed in all Sessions of the Synod.

ARTICLE XXV.

Resumption and Close.

The Minutes were read and approved.

Resolved, That the Stated Clerk publish 750 copies of the Minutes of this Synod, duly authenticated; and that he distribute among the Classes the number of copies directed by them.

ARTICLE XXVI.

Adjournment.

Synod adjourned to meet in the city of Albany, on the first Wednesday in June, 1831, at 10 o'clock, A. M.
