ARTICLE III.

Communications.

The following Report of the Board of Superintendents, of the Theological Seminary, was received, and referred to the Committee on the Professorate :

That pursuant to the direction of the General Synod, the Board met in the Theological Hall, in the city of New Brunswick, on the 17th day of July, 1828. Reports were received from each of the Professors. The Reports represented the following young gentlemen as members of the Theological College.

Senior Class.-Robert P. Lee, James E. Quaw, Henry A. Raymond.

Middle Class.-Isaac D. Cole, James Demarest, Henry Mandeville, James Talmage, Cornelius L. Van Dyke, Charles P. Wack, Henry Morris.

Junior Class.-John H. Bevier, Christopher Hunt, Francis M. Kip, Alexander M. Mann, Abraham F. Meyers, John H. Pitcher, Ransford Wells, Frederick Cornell, Thomas A. Ammerman, Aaron A. Marselus.

James Beveridge, who was reported last year, has withdrawn from the Institution; and Garrabrants Van Riper, who was received last fall, has been removed by death.

The Professors bear the most ample testimony to the good and exemplary conduct, diligence, and proficiency of the Students.

The Senior Class was examined on the studies of the whole course

and the Middle and Junior Classes, excepting Mr. Bevier, who was absent on account of want of health, on the studies pursued by them respectively, during the year, agreeably to the plan of study directed by General Synod. The Senior Class was also examined on experimental religion, and their views in desiring to enter into the Gospel ministry. The whole examination was highly satisfactory to the Board, and bore honourable testimony to the faithfulness, intelligence and zeal of the Professors, and the diligence and proficiency of the Students.

Aaron A. Marselus, having entered the Institution after the Session had made some progress, having satisfied the Professors, by his diligence and proficiency, and the Board by his examination, is, by them, recommended to General Synod for a dispensation.

The members of the Senior Class were cheerfully recommended for professoral certificates, and, upon leaving the Institution, commended to God, and the word of his grace, in the hope that they will become faithful and able ministers of the New Testament.

The general aspect and prospects of the School, are encouraging, and promise to meet, under the Divine blessing, the desires, prayers, and wants, of the Church. For this fountain of Sacred literature, the Board solicit the continued regard, and fervent prayers of the General Synod, and of the whole Church. They would specially recommend to your attention, the wants of the Library and the Education Fund, as of the highest importance to the promotion of our prosperity, under a perfect conviction, that the subject need only be fairly presented, in order to meet the liberal support and prompt attention which it merits.

The Board will conclude by blessing Him, who is "Head over all things to his Church," for his many and unmerited favours to this "school of the prophets," imploring his continued presence and grace, and wishing the General Synod, and the Church, "grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father, and Jesus Christ our Lord." Respectfully submitted.

By order of the Board,

J. BRODHEAD, President, pro. tem.

THOMAS M. STRONG, Secretary.
