William Lawrence (1622/23-1680) of St. Alban's Hertfordshire, England, immigrated to America, settled first at Ipswich, Massachusetts, and then migrated to Flushing, New York, after 1635. Record follows line of descent to John Watson Lawrence (1800-1888). He was born at Flushing, the son of Effingham Lawrence (1760-1800) and Elizabeth Watson Lawrence (1764-1852). He married Mary King Bowne (1808-1874) at Flushing in 1826. She was born at New York City, the daughter of Walter Bowne (1770-1846) and Eliza Southgate Bowne (1783-1809). John Watson and Mary had ten children, 1827-1852.
