Eternal God, thou alone rulest in the Kingdoms of Men, thou art the great God of Battles and Recompences, and by thy glorious Wifdom, by thy Almighty Power, and by thy fecret Providence, doft determine the events of War, and the iffues of humane Counfels, and the returns of Peace and Victory: now at laft be pleafed to let the Light of thy Countenance, and the effects of a glorious Mercy and a gracious Pardon return to this Land. Thou feeft how great evils we fuffer under the power and tyranny of War; and altho' we fubmit to and adore thy Juftice in our Sufferings, yet be pleafed to pity our Mifery, to hear our Complaints, and to provide us of Remedy againft eur prefent Calamities: let not the defenders of a righ teous Caufe go away afhamed, nor our Counfels be for ever confounded, nor our Parties defeated, nor Religi on fuppreffed, nor Learning difcountenanced, and we be fpoiled of all the exteriour Ornaments, Inftruments; and Advantages of Piety, which thou haft been plea fed formerly to minifter to our Infirmities, for the In terefts of Learning and Religion. W YE confefs, dear God, that we have deferved to be totally extinct and feparate from the Communion of Saints, and the comforts of Religion, to be made fervants to ignorant, unjuft and inferiour per

fons, or to fuffer any other calamity which thou fhalt allot us as the inftrument of thy anger, whom we have fo often provoked to wrath and jealoufie! Lord, we numbly lie down under the burthen' of thy rod, begging of thee to remember our infirmities, and no more to remember our fins, to fupport us with thy ftaff, to lift us up with thy hand, to refrefh us with thy gracious eye and if a fad cloud of temporal infelicities muft ftill encircle us, open unto us the window of heaven, that with an eye of Faith and Hope we may fee beyond the cloud, looking upon thofe mercies which in thy fecret providence and admirable wif dom thou defigneft to all thy fervants, froin fuch unlikely and fad beginnings. Teach us diligently to do all our duty, and cheerfully to fubmit to all thy will; and at laft be gracious to thy people that call upon thee, that put their truft in thee, that have laid up all their hopes in the bofom of God, that befides thee have no helper. Amen.

PLace a Guard of Angels about the Perfon of the KING, and immure him with the defence of thy right hand that no unhallowed arm may do violence to him. Support him with aids from Heaven in all his battels, tryals and dangers, that he may in every inftant of his temptation become dearer to thee, and do thou return to him with mercy and deliverance. Give unto him the hearts of all his people, and put into his hand a prevailing rod of iron, a fceptre of power, and a fword of justice; and enable him to defend and comfort the Churches under his protection.

Lefs all his Friends, Relatives, Confederates and Lieges; direct their counfels, unite their hearts, ftrengthen their hands, blefs their actions. Give unto them holiness of intention, that they may with much candor and ingenuity purfue the caufe of God and the King. Sanctifie all the means and inftruments of their purposes, that they may not with cruelty, injuftice or oppreffion proceed towards the end of their juft defires and do thou crown all their endeavours with á

profperous Event, that all may co-operate to, and actually produce thofe great Mercies which we beg of thee; Honour and Safety to our Sovereign, Defence of his juft Rights, Peace to his People, Eftablishment and Promotion to Religion, Advantages and Encouragement to Learning and Holy Living, Deliverance to all the oppreffed, Comfort to all thy faithful People, and from all thefe, Glory to thy holy Name, Grant this, O KING of Kings, for his Sake by whom thou haft configned us to all thy Mercies and Promifes, and to whom thou hast given all Power in Heaven and Earth, our Lord and Saviour Jefus Chrift. Amen.

A Prayer to be faid by Kings or Magiftrates, for themselves and their People.

Thefe Words to be added by a Delegate or Inferior.

My God and King, thou ruleft in the Kingdoms of Men, by thee Kings reign and Princes decree Juftice: thou haft appointed me under thyfelf [* and under my Prince] to govern this Portion of thy Church according to the Laws of Religion and the Common-wealth. O Lord, I am but an infirm Man, and know not how to decree certain Sentences without erring in Judgment: but do thou give to thy Servant an understanding Heart to judge this People, that I may difcern between good and evil. Caufe me to walk before thee and all the People in Truth and Righteoufnefs, and in Sincerity of Heart, that I may not regard the Perfon of the Mighty, nor be afraid of his Terror, nor defpife the Perfon of the Poor, and reject his Petition; but that doing Juftice to all Men, Iand my People may receive Mercy of thee, Peace and Pienty in our days, and mutual Love,Duty and Correfpondence, that there be no leading into Captivity, no complaining in our Streets; but we may fee the Church in Profperity all our days, and Religion established and encreafing. Do thou establish the Houfe of thy Servant, and bring me to a Participation of the Glories of

A Prayer to be faid by Parents for their Children.

Almighty and moft Merciful Father, who haft promifed Children as a reward to the righteous, and haft given them to me as a teftimony of thy mercy, and an engagement of my duty; be pleafed to be a Father unto them, and give them healthful bodies, understanding fouls, and fanctified fpirits, that they may be thy fervants and thy children all their days. Let a great Mercy and Providence lead them through the dangers and temptations and ignorances of their Youth, that they may never run into folly, and the evils of an unbridled appetite. So order the accidents of their lives, that by good education, careful tutors, holy example, innocent company, prudent counfel, and thy reftraining Grace, their duty to thee may be fecured in the midst of a crooked, and untoward Generation and if it feem good in why eyes, let me he enabled to provide conveniently for the fupport of their Perfons, that they may not be deftitute and miferable in my death; or if thou fhalt call me off from this World by a more timely Summons, let their Portion be thy Care, Mercy and Providence over their Bodies and Souls, and may they never live vicious Lives, nor die violent or untimely Deaths; but let them glorifie thee here with a free Obedience, and the duties of a holy life: that when they have ferved thee in their Generations, and have profited the Chriftian Common-wealth, they may be Co-heirs with Jefus in the Glories of thy eternal Kingdom, through the fame our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

A Prayer to be faid by Mafters of Families, Curates, Tutors, or other obliged Perfons, for their Charges.

Almighty God,merciful and gracious, have mercy upon my Family [or pupils, or parishioners, &c.]

and all committed to my Charge: fanctifie them with thy Grace, preferve them with thy Providence, guard them from all Evil by the Cuftody of Angels, direct them in the Ways of Peace and Holy Religion by my Miniftry and the Conduct of thy moft Holy Spirit, and confign them all with the Participation of thy Bleffings and Graces in this World, with health ful Bodies, with good Understandings, and fanctified Spirits, to a full Fruition of thy Glories hereafter, through Jefus Chrift our Lord.

A Prayer to be faid by Merchants, Tradesmen,
and Handicrafts-men.

Eternal God thou Fountain of Juftice, Mercy and Benediction, who by my Education and other Effects of thy Providence, haft called me to this Profeffion, that by my Induftry. I may in my fmall proportion work together for the Good of my felf and others; I humbly beg thy Grace to guide me in my Intention, and in the Tranfaction of my Affairs, that I may be diligent, juft and faithful: and give me thy Favour, that this my Labour may be accepted by thee as a part of my neceffary Duty: and give me thy Bleffing to affift and profper me in my Calling, to fuch measures as thou shalt in Mercy chufe for me and be pleased to let thy Holy Spirit be for ever prefent with me, that I may never be gi yen to Covetoufnefs and fordid Appetites, to Lying and Falfhood, or any other bafe, indirect and beg garly Arts; but give me Prudence, Honesty and Chriftian Sincerity, that my Trade may be fanctified by my Religion, my Labour by my Intention and thy Bleffing that when I have done my portion of Work thou haft alotted me, and improved the Ta. lent thou haft intrufted to me, and ferved the Common-wealth in my capacity, I may receive the mighty Price of my High-calling, which I expect and beg, in the Portion and Inheritance of the ever bleffed Saviour and Redeemer Jefus.
