The sons of Jacob and Joseph.
The waters saw thee, O God;
The waters saw thee, they were
afraid:

The depths also trembled.

The clouds poured out water;
The skies sent out a sound:
Thine arrows also went abroad.

And cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

O LORD God of hosts,

How long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?

Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears,

And given them tears to drink in large measure.

The voice of thy thunder was in neighbours: the whirlwind;

The lightnings lightened the world:

The earth trembled and shook.
Thy way was in the sea,
And thy paths in the great wa-
ters,

And thy footsteps were not known.

Thou leddest thy people like a flock,

By the hand of Moses and Aaron.

THE EIGHTEENTH DAY

EVENING WORSHIP
PSALM 80

GIVE ear, O Shepherd of Israel, Thou that leadest Joseph like a flock;

Thou that sittest upon the cherubim, shine forth.

Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up thy might, and come to save us.

Turn us again, O God;

And our enemies laugh among themselves.

Turn us again, O God of hosts; And cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

Thou broughtest a vine out of Egypt:

Thou didst drive out the nations, and plantedst it.

Thou preparedst room before it, And it took deep root, and filled the land.

The mountains were covered with the shadow of it,

And the boughs thereof were like cedars of God.

She sent out her branches unto the sea,

And her shoots unto the River. Why hast thou broken down her fences,

So that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?

The boar out of the wood doth ravage it,

And the wild beasts of the field feed on it.

Turn again, we beseech thee, O God of hosts:

Look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine,

self, where she may lay her young, Even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.

Blessed are they that dwell in

And the stock which thy right thy house : hand hath planted,

And the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.

It is burned with fire, it is cut down:

They perish at the rebuke of thy

countenance.

They will be still praising thee. Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee;

In whose heart are the high ways to Zion.

Passing through the valley of Weeping they make it a place of

Let thy hand be upon the man of springs; thy right hand,

Upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.

Yea, the early rain covereth it with blessings.

They go from strength to

So shall we not go back from strength, thee:

Quicken thou us, and we will call upon thy name.

Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts;

Cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

THE NINETEENTH DAY

MORNING WORSHIP
PSALM 84

How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!

My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord;

My heart and my flesh cry out unto the living God.

Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house,

And the swallow a nest for her

Every one of them appeareth before God in Zion.

O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer:

Give ear, O God of Jacob.
Behold, O God our shield,
And look upon the face of thine
anointed.

For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.

I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

For the LORD God is a sun and a shield:

The Lord will give grace and glory:

No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

[blocks in formation]

Thou hast forgiven the iniquity him; of thy people,

Thou hast covered all their sin.

Thou hast taken away all thy wrath:

Thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.

Turn us, O God of our salvation, And cause thine indignation toward us to cease.

Wilt thou be angry with us for ever?

Wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?

Wilt thou not quicken us again: That thy people may rejoice in thee?

Shew us thy mercy, O LORD,
And grant us thy salvation.
I will hear what God the LORD
will speak:

For he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints:

Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him;

er;

That glory may dwell in our land.
Mercy and truth are met togeth-

Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

And shall make his footsteps a way to walk in.

THE TWENTIETH DAY

MORNING WORSHIP

PSALM 90

LORD, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

Before the mountains were brought forth,

Or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world,

Even from everlasting to everlasting thou art God.

Thou turnest man to destruction; And sayest, Return, ye children of men.

For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, And as a watch in the night. Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep:

In the morning they are like grass which groweth up.

In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up;

In the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

For we are consumed in thine anger,

And in thy wrath are we troubled.

Thou hast set our iniquities be

fore thee,

Let thy work appear unto thy servants,

And thy glory upon their children.

And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us; and establish

Our secret sins in the light of thy thou the work of our hands upon

countenance.

For all our days are passed away

in thy wrath:

We bring our years to an end as

a sigh.

The days of our years are threescore years and ten,

Or even by reason of strength

fourscore years;

us;

Yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

So teach us to number our days, that we may get us an heart of wisdom.

Return, O Lord; how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy

servants.

O satisfy us in the morning with thy mercy;

That we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, And the years wherein we have seen evil.

My God, in whom I trust. For he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,

And from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his pinions,

And under his wings shalt thou take refuge: his truth is a shield and a buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night,

Nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

For the pestilence that walketh in darkness,

Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, And ten thousand at thy right hand;

But it shall not come nigh thee.

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold, and see the reward of the wicked.

For thou, O LORD, art my refuge! Thou hast made the Most High thy habitation;

There shall no evil befall thee,

Neither shall any plague come nigh thy tent.

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy

ways.

They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder:

The young lion and the serpent shalt thou trample under feet.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him:

I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honour him.

With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

THE TWENTY-FIRST DAY

MORNING WORSHIP

PSALM 92: 1-9, 12-15

Ir is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD,

And to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:

To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning,

And thy faithfulness every night, With an instrument of ten strings, and with the psaltery;

With a solemn sound upon the harp.

For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work:

I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

How great are thy works, O LORD!

Thy thoughts are very deep.
A brutish man knoweth not;
Neither doth a fool understand

this:

When the wicked spring as the grass,

And when all the workers of ininiquity do flourish;

It is that they shall be destroyed for ever:

But thou, O Lord, art on high for

evermore.

For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for lo, thine enemies shall perish;

All the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.
