Bibliographical Note. The text of Locke's Essay concerning Human Understanding used throughout this study, was edited by Alexander Campbell Fraser, and published in two volumes at Oxford, in 1894. The text has been prepared after collation with the four editions published when Locke was alive [1690, 1694, 1695, and also with the French version of Coste done under Locke's supervision (essay, ed. Fraser, I, xiv).
