God;

HAPPY day, that stays my choice On Thee, my Saviour and my Well may this glowing heart rejoice, And tell Thy goodness all abroad. 2 Here rest, my oft-divided heart, Fixed on thy God, thy Saviour, rest; Who with the world would grieve to part When called on angels' food to feast? 3 High Heaven that heard the solemn vow, That vow renewed shall daily hear; Till in life's latest hour I bow,

And bless in death a bond so dear.

Holy Communion.

10s.

ERE, O my Lord, I see Thee face to face;

Here would I touch and handle things

unseen;

Here grasp with firmer hand eternal grace, And all my weariness upon Thee lean. 2 Here would I feed upon the bread of God; Here drink with Thee the royal wine of heaven;

Here would I lay aside each earthly load, Here taste afresh the calm of sin forgiven. 3 I have no help but Thine; nor do I need Another arm save Thine to lean upon; It is enough, my Lord, enough indeed; My strength is in Thy might, Thy might alone.

4 Mine is the sin, but Thine the righteousness: Mine is the guilt, but Thine the cleansing blood:

Here is my robe, my refuge, and my peace; Thy blood, Thy righteousness, O Lord, my God!

RAW nigh and take the Body of the
Lord,

And drink the holy Blood for you out-
poured.

2 Saved by that Body and that holy Blood, With souls refreshed, we render thanks to God.

3 Salvation's giver, Christ, the only Son, By His dear cross and blood the victory

won.

4 Offered was He for greatest and for least, Himself the Victim, and Himself the Priest.

5 Victims were offered by the law of old, That in a type celestial mysteries told.

6 He, Ransomer from death, and Light from shade,

Now gives His holy grace, His saints to aid. 7 Approach ye then with faithful hearts sin

cere,

And take the safeguard of salvation here.

8 He, that His saints in this world rules and shields,

To all believers life eternal yields;

9 With heavenly bread makes them that hunger whole,

Gives living waters to the thirsting soul.

10 Alpha and Omega, to Whom shall bow All nations at the doom, is with us now.

221

O

GOD, unseen yet ever near,
Thy presence may we feel;
And thus inspired with holy fear.

Before Thine altar kneel.

2 Here may Thy faithful people know
The blessings of Thy love,

The streams that through the desert flow,
The manna from above.

3 We come, obedient to Thy word,
To feast on heavenly food;
Our meat the Body of the Lord,
Our drink His precious Blood.

4 Thus may we all Thy word obey,
For we, O God, are Thine;
And go rejoicing on our way,
Renewed with strength divine.

222

JESU, to Thy table led,

Now let every heart be fed
With the true and living bread.

2 While in penitence we kneel,
Thy blest presence let us feel,
All Thy wondrous love reveal.

3 While on Thy dear cross we gaze,
Mourning o'er our sinful ways,
Turn our sadness into praise.

4 When we taste the mystic wine,
Of Thine outpoured blood the sign,
Fill our hearts with love divine.

78.

5 Draw us to Thy wounded side, Whence there flowed the healing tide; There our sins and sorrows hide.

6 From the bonds of sin release;
Cold and wavering faith increase;
Lamb of God, grant us Thy peace.

7 Lead us by Thy pierced hand,
Till around Thy throne we stand,
In the bright and better land.

BREAD of Life from heaven,
To saints and angels given;

O manna from above!

The souls that hunger, feed Thou,
The hearts that seek Thee, lead Thou,
With Thy sweet, tender love.

20 fount of grace redeeming,
O river ever streaming
From Jesus' holy side!
Come Thou, Thyself bestowing
On thirsting souls, and flowing
Till all are satisfied.

3 Jesu, this feast receiving,
Thy word of truth believing,
We Thee unseen adore;
Grant, when the veil is rended,
That we, to heaven ascended,
May see Thee evermore.

224

BREAD of heaven, on Thee we feed,

For Thy flesh is meat indeed:

Ever may our souls be fed

With this true and living bread;
Day by day with strength supplied,
Through the life of Him Who died.

2 Vine of heaven, Thy blood supplies
This blest cup of sacrifice;

78

Lord, Thy wounds our healing give,
To Thy cross we look and live:
Jesu, may we ever be

Grafted, rooted, built in Thee.

QREAD of the world, in mercy broken,
Wine of the soul, in mercy shed,
By Whom the words of life were spoken,
And in Whose death our sins are dead;

2 Look on the heart by sorrow broken,
Look on the tears by sinners shed;
And be Thy feast to us the token
That by Thy grace our souls are fed.

226

AVIOUR, Who didst come to give
Living bread, that all might live;
Grant me grace on Thee to feed,
For Thy flesh is meat indeed.

2 Hungry, thirsty, faint, I pray,
Help me on the heavenward way;
Vine of strength, supply my need,
For Thy blood is drink indeed.

SAVING Victim, opening wide
The gate
of heaven to man below,
Our foes press on from every side,
Thine aid supply, Thy strength bestow.

2 All praise and thanks to Thee ascend
For evermore, blest One in Three;
Oh, grant us life that shall not end,
In our true native land with Thee.
