Was Treasurer of the State of Connecticut in 1882 and declined the nomination for Governor in the same year. Has been quite prominent in political affairs in Stamford, having represented his district in the State Legislature and was president of the City Council for four years. Was a member of the Committee of Thirty which reorganized the Republican party in New York in 1894, and was active in connection with the Constitutional Convention held in the same year. Served as a commissioner appointed by the Supreme Court to determine whether a rapid transit railroad should be built in New York City, and has been a referee in many cases. Was president of the Republican County Committee of New York in 1893, and is now a member of the executive committee of the Republican State Committee.
