BRADY, ANTHONY NICHOLAS-Financier, 54 Wall street, New York City; residence Albany. Born in Lille, France, Aug. 22, 1843. Came with his parents to Troy when quite young. Did not attend school after he was thirteen. (Married Marcia A. Myers.) Opened a tea store in Albany in 1854; was successful, and kept opening up new ones till he had monopolized the tea trade in Albany and Troy; then turned his attention to granite, and soon became the owner of large quarries; formed a plan for the purchase and consolidation of the Albany and Troy gas plants, which, with the aid of ex-Governor Flower and Mr. E. C. Benedict, he carried out successfully; repeated the operation with like success in Chicago; bought up all the street car lines in Albany and Troy, and equipped them with electricity; rebuilt the "Huckleberry" railway system in New York City; after he had completed his contract could not get his pay and kept the road; became acquainted with William C. Whitney and other railroad magnates and planned the consolidation of all the New York City surface lines; promoted similar combinations in Washington, Philadelphia and other cities.
