Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That it shall be lawful for the trustees of said church to make, acknowledge, and deliver a new deed to said Shotwell for said ground; and when such deed is so made, executed, and delivered by them to the said Shotwell, the legal title to said ground shall pass to said Shotwell in fee, and he shall be vested with full title thereto. CHAPTER 596.

AN ACT to enlarge the jurisdiction of the Police Judge and Marshal of the town of Greensburg.

§ 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the CommonAct of 1848 de wealth of Kentucky, That the act, entitled, an act to amend the act incorporating the town of Greensburg, approved 25th of February, 1848, so far as the same may not be inconsistent with the constution of this state, be and the same is hereby declared to be in full force.

§ 3. That when a vacancy shall occur in the office of police judge of said town, it shall be the duty of the county court clerk, or in his absence the clerk of the circuit court, to issue a writ of election directed to the town marshal or any constable of said county, who, after having given due notice by advertising the same at the court house door for five days, proceed to hold an election to fill said vacancy, by the qualified voters of said town. The ttustees of said town shall appoint the judges and clerk of said election, and they shall, in all respects, be governed by the laws now in force as to conducting said election and making returns thereof. The election of said police judge shall be certified by the board of trustees to the governor, who shall issue a commission to the person thus elected. § 4. Should a vacancy occur in the office of town marshal in said town, it shall be filled by appointment of the fice of marshal, trustees thereof until the next regular election; and the trustees shall provide for holding and conducting said elec

§ 5. The presiding judge of the county court of Green county shall make an order directing the time of holding court by the said police judge, for the trial of civil causes, in the manner now required by law for holding courts of justices of the peace.

CHAPTER 598.

AN ACT to authorize the conveyance of a moiety of the Mount Pleasant
Baptist church lot in Adair county to the Christian Reformed church.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That William Wheeler, Wm. Reynolds, and Joseph S. Reynolds, the only white male members of the Baptist church of Mount Pleasant in Adair county, be and they are hereby appointed trustees for said church, and for the purposes of this act are authorized and empowered to convey, by deed, with such clause of warranty as they may deem proper, to George R. Page, John F. Bridgewater, and Charles Massie, trustees in trust, and their successors in office forever, one undivided moiety of the acre of land deeded to Joshua Atkinson, Samuel Page, Henry Reynolds, and Thomas Edrington, trustees of the Baptist church, by James Bailey, lying in Adair county, near the residence of John Hendrickson, and being the same on which Mount Pleasant meeting house now stands, for the use and benefit of the Christian Reformed church at Mt. Pleasant. This act to take effect and be in force from its passage.

CHAPTER 599.

AN ACT in relation to a poor house in Cumberland county. § 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That the county court of Cumberland is hereby anthorized, if in its discretion it may see proper, to apply the funds arising from the appropriation of vacant lands in said county to the purchasing of a suitable site, and the erection of suitable buildings thereon, for the maintainance and support of all the indigent poor white persons of said county; and said court may impose a poll tax on all the white titheables of said county not exceeding twenty cents on each tithe, for the purpose aforesaid; and may receive donations for that purpose, and may make all needful orders for the effectuation of the object of this

act.

§2. This act shall take effect from its passage. Approved March 7, 1854.

AN ACT giving further power to the Bullitt county Plank Road Company.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That whenever the Bullitt county Plank road company shall have completed three miles of said road, and the same is fit for travel, said company shall have the right to erect a gate at the end of any three miles so completed, and charge half the amount of toll as now allowed by their charter, until ten miles of said road shall be completed; and then said company shall be allowed to erect gates thereon and charge full toll as provided in their charter.

CHAPTER 602.

AN ACT for the benefit of the Paris and Flat Rock Turnpike Road, in
Bourbon county.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That the county court for Bourbon county may, at any one of its regular terms in the years 1854 or 1855, appropriate out of any moneys in the county treasury not otherwise appropriated, any sum within the discretion of said court, not exceeding two hundred dollars per mile to the Paris and Flat Rock turnpike road in said county, to aid in the construction thereof, which shall be in addition to what said court has heretofore appropriated to said road: Provided, that a majority of all the justices of said county court shall be present and vote in favor of said appropriation before it shall be lawful.

CHAPTER 603.

AN ACT to amend an act, entitled, an act authorizing the county court of
Wayne to sell the old jail and stray pen lots in Monticello.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That so much of the above entitled act, approved December 20, 1851, as authorizes the county court of Wayne county to appoint commissioners to value all that part of the public ground in the town of Monticello on which the old jail and stray pen are erected, and also the buildings thereon, be and the same is hereby repealed; and said county court, a majority of the justices of the peace in said county concurring, are hereby empowered to sell said grounds and buildings at any amount they may deem proper, and they are hereby empowered to execute deeds of conveyance for the same, by a commissioner, for and on behalf of said court; but the proceeds of said sale

are to be applied as provided for in the act to which this is an amendment.

§ 2. This act shall go into effect on its passage.

AN ACT to change the boundary line and place of voting in Justices' and
Constables' districts Nos. 2 and 3, in Taylor county.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That justices' and constables' districts Nos. 2 and 3, in Taylor county, be and the same is hereby so changed as that said boundary lines shall commence at the Green county line where it crosses the middle fork of Pitman's creek; thence up the said creek to the crossing place of the Greensburg and Lebanon road, which is a point at the line now run. That the foregoing boundary shall be and is hereby attached to justices' and constable's district No 3, in said county; and all qualified voters therein shall be entitled to vote in said district No. 3, as aforesaid, And that the place of voting in district No. 2, in Taylor county, be and the same is hereby changed from the house of R. P. & D. Sanders to that of John Durham in said county.

CHAPTER 606.

AN ACT authorizing the Register of the Land Office to correct a deed. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That the register of the land office is directed and hereby authorized to correct a tax title deed, made to Robert Wickliffe in 1814, for one thousand acres of land in the name of William Thompson, which deed calls for one thousand acres on the south side of Green river, instead of the south side of Cumberland river, where the land actually lies; and that the register be directed to copy from the patent the courses, distances, corners, creeks, and river, as called for in the patent to said William Thomp

son.

AN ACT to change the lines between voting districts Nos. 4 and 7, in
Whitley county, and 3d and 6th districts, in Monroe county.

That the present dividing line of the 3d and 6th magistrates' and constable's districts, in Monroe county, be so changed as to extend the 6th district to and include it within the following line, to-wit: beginning at Milton B. Hays, in the present line; thence with the mill road to Benjamin N. McPherson, including him; thence to Mark High, including him; then with the road passing Norris High's including him, to the east fork, the present line. Approved March 7, 1854.

CHAPTER 608.

AN ACT to create the offices of Police Judge and Town Marshal of Love. laceville.

§ 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That the offices of police judge and town marshal are hereby created and established in the town of Lovelaceville, Ballard county, whose jurisdiction shall extend one mile from said town, south, west, and north.

§ 2. That all the provisions of an act, approved DecemProvisions of ber 20, 1851, entitled, an act to incorporate the town of the charter of Marion, in Crittenden county, be and the same are hereby applied, so far as the same may be applicable, to the town of Lovelaceville, in Ballard county, except so much thereof as defines the limits of the town of Marion, and except also so much as relates to the duties of John S. Gilliam, or may be inconsistent with the first section of this act. Approved March 7, 1854.

CHAPTER 609.

AN ACT incorporating the South West Agricultural and Mechanical Association, at Paducah.

WHEREAS, divers persons in the county of McCracken, and other counties in this commonwealth, have organized an association under the name and style of the South West Agricultural and Mechanical Association, for the purpose of promoting improvement in all the various deportments of agriculture, mechanics, and horticulture, and for that purpose have adopted a constitution and by-laws, and chosen a president and ten directors to control and manage the affairs thereof, and have applied to the general assembly for an act of incorporation. Therefore,
