4. Triumphant in His glory now
His sceptre ruleth all;

Earth, Heaven, and Hell before Him bow,
And at His footstool fall.

5. While joyful thus His praise we sing,
His mercy we implore,

Into His palace bright to bring
And keep us evermore.

The Ascension.

"And it came to pass, while He blessed them, He was parted from them, and carried up into heaven."-Luke xxiv. 51.

109 HAIL the day that sees Him rise
Glorious to His native skies!

7's.

Christ, awhile to mortals given,
Enters now the highest Heaven.

2. There the glorious triumph waits,-
Lift your heads, eternal gates!
Wide unfold the radiant scene,
Take the King of Glory in!

3. Lo! the Heaven its Lord receives,
Yet He loves the earth He leaves;
Though returning to His throne,
Still He calls mankind His own.

4. Now for us He intercedes,

His prevailing death He pleads,
Near Himself prepares a place-
He the First-fruits of our race.

5. Oh! though parted from our sight,
Far above the starry height,

Grant our hearts may thither rise,
Seeking Thee above the skies!

"Thou hast ascended up on high, Thou hast led captivity captive: Thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them."-Ps. lxviii. 18.

8,8,7.

110 THE Lord ascendeth up on high,
The Lord hath triumphed gloriously,
In power and might excelling;
Hell and the grave are captive led,
Lo! He returns, our glorious Head,
To His eternal dwelling.

2. The heavens with joy receive their Lord,
By saints, by angel hosts adored;
O day of exultation!

O earth, adore thy glorious King,
His rising, His ascension sing,
With grateful adoration!

3. Our great High-Priest hath gone before,
Thence on His Church His grace to pour,

And bring us to salvation;

Oh, may our hearts to Him ascend;
May all within us upward tend,
Where lies our expectation.

4. May all our hearts, O Lord, seek Thee ;-
Our hearts from every burden free

Of earthly care and pleasure;

And, when our mortal days shall end,
Oh, may our souls to Thee ascend,

Our everlasting treasure!

"The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit Thou at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool."-Ps. cx. 1.

111 REJOICE, the Lord is King!

4.6's.2.8's.

Your Lord and King adore:
Mortals, give thanks and sing,

And triumph evermore.

Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice;
Rejoice; again I say, rejoice!

2. Jesus the Saviour reigns,

The God of truth and love;
When He had purged our stains,
He took His seat above.

Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice.
Rejoice; again I say, rejoice!

3. His kingdom cannot fail;

He rules o'er earth and heaven:

The keys of death and hell

To Christ the Lord are given.

Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice;
Rejoice; again I say, rejoice!

4. He sits at God's right hand,
Till all His foes submit,

And bow to His command,

And fall beneath His feet.

Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice;
Rejoice; again I say, rejoice!

5. Rejoice in glorious hope;
Jesus the Judge shall come,
And take His servants up
To their eternal home.

Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice;
Rejoice; again I say, rejoice!

"Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up ye everlasting doors; and the King of Glory shall come in."-Ps. xxiv. 7.

L.M.

112 THE Lord is risen from the dead,
Risen to the majesty on high;
The powers of hell are captive led,
Dragged to the portals of the sky.

2. Lo! His triumphal chariot waits,

And angels chant th' enraptured lay;
Lift up your heads, ye heavenly gates,
Ye everlasting doors give way.

3. Loose all your bars of massy light,
And wide unfold the ethereal scene;
He claims these mansions as His right:
Receive the King of Glory in."

4. Who is the King of Glory? who?

"The Lord of hosts, in battle strong;
Who Satan, sin, and death o'erthrew,
And leads in chains the captive throng."

5. Behold! the King of Glory waits;
Celestial powers His voice obey:
"Lift up your heads, ye heavenly gates,
Ye everlasting doors, give way."

6. Who is the King of Glory? who?

"The Lord of power supreme possest, To Him eternal praise is due;

God over all, for ever blest."
