PREFACE.

HE following pages have been written and

arranged in compliance with requests, so many and so earnest, that the Master's "Go forward" was easily discernible. Could I disappoint the sister who had watched by that couch of suffering, weakness, and weariness, so tenderly and patiently, and whose greatest solace in every hour of loneliness would be the assurance that her "Mary" " yet speaketh” in this record of the "love and pity

"* of our Covenant

God and Father in Christ Jesus.

My sister unites with me in grateful acknowledgment of all letters and papers kindly lent to us for publication.

*Isaiah lxiii. 9.

We, the three surviving sisters, earnestly pray that the Spirit of Light, and Life, and Power, may bless and sanctify the perusal of this little volume; that it may speak words of comfort, guidance, and it may be "governance" also, to the Members of the Invalids' Prayer Union past and present; and that amongst "Our Mary's" relatives and friends her well-known voice may still be heard, as it re-echoes in these pages, the motto of her life, "ONE THING IS NEEDFUL."

MARGARETTA SHEKLETON.
