In presenting to the Public a new Edition of the Writings of Mr. BURKE, an opportunity is afforded, for the first time, of including in it his CORRESPONDENCE between the year 1744 and his decease in 1797, first published in 1844, from the original MSS., and edited by Earl Fitzwilliam and Sir Richard Bourke. It contains numerous Historical and Biographical Notes, and several Original Letters from the leading Statesmen of the period, the most interesting portion of the Letters of Mr. Burke to Dr. French Laurence (published from the original MSS. by the late Archbishop of Cashel in 1827), being now incorporated in it; the whole supplying, to some extent, an Autobiography. The CORRESPONDENCE, which is contained in the First and Second Volumes, is followed by the WORKS of Mr. BURKE, as edited by his Literary Executors, and completed, by the publication, in 1826, of the 15th and 16th Volumes, under the superintendence of the late Bishop of Rochester, Dr. Walker King.

LONDON, February, 1852.
