(1) This Note refpects not only this Place, but the References fet un der it. It is not here faid, that God before the World began, chufe a few articular Perfons to Salvation, exclusively of the rest of Mankind, which is Doctrine fome would eftablifh upon fuch Expreffions; no, the Promise of Eternal Life and Happinefs, which by the Gofpel we are made capa ble of obtaining, belongs to all who will fincerely comply with the reanable Terms it was fit for God to offer it upon. None are excluded but thefe who refufe to be reclaimed, and who, by continuing in a Courfe of Sin, wilfully exclude themfelves. This was a Grace or Favour, which neither fews nor Heathens could merit by any Works or Performances of their own, but it was the Effect of the Mercy and Compaffion of God in and through fe us Christ to all Mankind, to all who would be prevailed with to forfake their Sins, and to believe in and obey the Laws of Jefus Chrift. This was Promifed to Adam, to Abraham, &C. See the Note on Tit. 1. 2.
