(2). That by the Sin and Fall of our first Parents, humane Nature is very corrupt ; that we all, as foon as we come to Age and Understanding fine against. God, by consenting to evil Thoughts, by speaking evil and wicked Words, and doing evil Actions: That in order to our become ing the Children of God, and Heirs of eternal Life, it is necessary that there should be a Change wrought in us by the Holy Spirit of God, which the Scriptures express by Repentance; by Conversion; by turning from Sin to God by being born again ; by dying to Sin, and living unto Righteousness; pare ting off the old Mar, and putting on the new Man: These are Trucks which cannot reasonably be denied. But that we are formally guilty of Adam's sin, and on that Account Children of Wrath, does not appear to me from this Text. For no Man is properly guilty of fin, but by his own Choice, and by the Consint of his own Will. It is indeed here faid,
Chat we are by Nature Children of Wrath; but by Nature is often meant Cr Stom, or Practice; and that it is to be interpreted fo here, is manifest from the Expressions in this Verse, and the Verses before it, which denote Persons who by their own atual Sins had made themselves Children of Wrath. Such as were dråd in Trefpoles and Sins ; luch as walked according to the Course of this prefent evil World; such as fulfilled the Defret of the Flesh, and of the Miod. I will mention but onge Place where the Word Nature manitently fignifies Custom or Practice, i Cor. 11.14 15. Here Nature, that is Cultum, is faid to teach, that Men are to cut their Hair, but Women are not to cut their Hair.
