THE

TEACHER TAUGHT.

SUBJECT I.

ON GOD.

ALMIGHTY GOD, thy piercing eye

Strikes through the shades of night,
And our most secret actions lie

All open to thy sight.

O may I now for ever fear

T' indulge a sinful thought,
Since the great God can see and hear,
And writes down ev'ry fault.

1. What is God called in this hymn? 2. What is the meaning of Almighty? 3. What can God's eye do?

4. What does that mean?

5. Does God know all about you?

6. What are actions?

7. Does God see those actions which you do when quite alone?

8. Does God know any thing besides your actions? 9. Prove this from Scripture.

A

10. What is the name of that attribute which expresses that God is every where present?

11. What is the name of that which expresses that

he knows every thing?

12. What feelings should be produced in our minds by the knowledge of these attributes?

13. There is a very short text on this subject, which may easily be learnt and remembered, and which it is very useful to keep in mind, can you think of it?

14. If this truth were deeply impressed on your mind, from what would it keep you?

Pray to God that you may remember it, and so hide it in your heart, that whenever you are tempted to do wrong, hoping that no one will find you out, this solemn truth may immediately come to your mind, "Thou God seest me;" "How can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?"

SCRIPTURE TEXT.

"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John iv. 24.

15. Who spoke these words?

16. What is God?

17. What do you understand by his being a Spirit? 18. What are we, his creatures, bound to do?

19. How must we worship Him?

20. What does this mean?

21. Who alone can worship God in spirit and in truth?

22. What must God think of those children, who, when they come to his house, instead of worshipping

him in spirit and in truth, are either talking or looking idly about?

Take heed that you do not fall into this great sin, but pray to God, when you enter his house, that you may have an attentive mind, and a new heart to hear and love his Word.

23. Of what is worship composed? 24. What is prayer?

25. What is praise?

26. Does God promise to hear prayer!

27. Try to find out in your Bible, and bring me next Sunday, some of God's promises to hear and answer prayer?

28. Is praise acceptable to God?

Scripture to be read in class

Scripture to be learnt at home during

the week..

Psalm cxxxix.

..1 Tim. vi. 16.

SUBJECT II.

THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD.

Justice and grace are thine alone,

And power, and wisdom too;
Give us the Spirit of thy Son,

That we thy will may do.

1. You said last Sunday that God is a Spirit: what sort of a Spirit does your hymn say that he is? 2. What are these things called?

3. What are attributes?

4. Can we understand the nature and attributes of God?

5. May a sinner draw any comfort from the knowledge of God's wisdom and power?

6. What blessing does your hymn teach you to ask of this wise and powerful God?

7. Have we any special encouragement in Scripture to ask for this blessing?

8. Why should you be so anxious to obtain the gift of the Spirit?

SCRIPTURE TEXT.

"And the Lord God passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and fourth generation." Ex. xxxiv. 6.7. 9. To whom did the Lord proclaim his name? 10. What do you mean by his name?

11. Which of God's attributes are mentioned in this text?

12. Why have you not mentioned that he forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin?

13. Which part of the verse shows the justice of God?

There are a great many difficult words in this text! first tell me the meaning of them, and then we will talk over the text itself.

14. What is Mercy?-Grace?-Long-suffering?Goodness?-Truth ?-Justice?
