What can all these wonders be?
Jesus dies on Calvary.

He who was a King above,

Left his kingdom for a grave;
Out of pity and of love,

That the guilty he might save.
Down to this sad world he flew,
For such little ones as you.

10. Why did Jesus leave his kingdom to come on earth to die?

11. Do such little ones as you need this Saviour?

SCRIPTUTE TEXT.

"And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabacthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice yielded up the ghost." Matt. xxvii. 46, 50.

29. Was any prophecy fulfilled by this?

What a wonderful thing was the death of God's only beloved Son for poor sinners! If there is one thing more wonderful, it is, that sinners think so little about it, and are so indifferent to the salvation which Jesus offers to them. Oh pray that you may think of this love of God in sending his Son, and the love of

the Son in dying for you, till you feel truly sorry for sin, and give yourself entirely to the service of Jesus. We will now read that beautiful Chapter, Isa. liii. and you shall find out in the Gospels how every part was fulfilled.

SUBJECT XII.

RESURRECTION OF CHRIST.

The happy morn is come!

The Saviour leaves the grave!
His glorious work is done,
Almighty now to save!

Captivity is captive led,

Since Jesus liveth, that was dead.

1. What is meant by "the happy morn?"
2. On what day did Jesus leave the grave?

3. What glorious work was finished when Christ rose from the dead?

4. How do Christians keep up the remembrance of this happy morn?

5. What do you mean by "now" in the line "Almighty now to save?"

6. Would not this have been the case if Jesus had not risen?

7. What do you mean by "Captivity is captive led?"

8. Why do Christians rejoice so much in the resurrection of Christ?

9. What effect should the resurrection of Christ have upon our hearts and lives?

SCRIPTURE TEXT.

"Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine holy one to see corruption." Psalm xvi. 10.

10. Who spoke these words?

11. Did he speak them of himself?

12. To whom did they apply?

13. Have you any Scripture proof that this was the case?

14. Was that part of the prophecy fulfilled which said that Jesus should not see corruption?

15. Did our Lord foretel his resurrection?

18. How did Mary find it when she came there? 19. What did the angel say to the woman? 20. Why had they no cause for fear?

21. Did the soldiers fear?

You see then what a difference there is between wicked people and God's people. Those who love Jesus need never fear, even in the midst of danger.

22. Which of the disciples did Mary tell of the resurrection?

23. Does it appear that the disciples expected that their Lord would rise again?

24. What is meant by their not knowing the Scripture?

25. What did the disciples do when Mary told them of the Lord's resurrection?

26. Was Jesus seen after the resurrection?

27. Which of the disciples would not believe that

Jesus was risen?

28. How did Jesus condescend to convince him? 29. What did Thomas say then?

30. Who did our Lord say would be inore blessed than Thomas?

31. Why are all these things written in the Scriptures?

Mark then the design of the Scriptures, and ask yourselves whether they have had this effect upon you. Reading or learning the Word of God will be useless, nay, it will increase your condemnation, unless you are led by it to believe in Jesus, and to give yourself, hody, soul, and spirit, to his blessed service.
