THE fpacious firmament on high,

With all the wide expanse of sky,
And spangled heav'ns, a fhining frame,
Their great Original proclaim.

Th'unwearied Sun, from day to day,
Shall his Creator's pow'r difplay,
And tell abroad to ev'ry land
The works of an almighty hand.

Soon as the ey'ning fhades prevail,
The Moon takes up the wond'rous tale,
And nightly to the lift'ning earth

Repeats the story of her birth:

While all the ftars that round her burn,
And all the planets, in their turn,
Confirm the tidings as they roll,

And fpread the truth from pole to pole.

Ancafter.

In reason's ear they all rejoice,
And utter forth a glorious voice,
For ever finging, as they fhine,

"The hand that made us is divine."

PSALM XIX.

St. James's.

WHO, Lord, can tell how oft his thoughts

From thy commandments stray ?
O cleanse me from my fecret faults,
And keep me in thy way!

Let no presumptuous fins obtain
Dominion over me!

So fhall I from the great offence

Be innocent and free.

Then shall my grateful off'rings find
Acceptance in thy fight.-

Thou art my faviour,-Thou alone,
O Lord, thou God of might.

To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
Immortal glory be!

God was, is now, and fhall be One

To all eternity.

PSALM

St. David's.<

XXII.

THOU, Lord, my God, didst shield from wrongs

My helpless infant days,

And fince haft been my faithful guide
Through life's bewild'ring ways.

Here, in thy courts, my grateful thanks
I thus with joy express ;

Before the world to Thee I

The vows of my distress.

pay

O ne'er difdain on lowly minds

To caft a gracious eye,
Nor turn from poverty thy face,
But hear its humble cry!

Then shall the glad converted world

To God their homage pay,

And all the nations of the earth

One fov'reign Lord obey.

[blocks in formation]

And guard me with a watchful eye :
My noon-day walks He fhall attend,
And all my midnight hours defend.

When in the fultry glebe I faint,
Or on the thirsty mountain pant;
To fertile vales and dewy meads
My weary wand'ring steps he leads;
Where peaceful rivers, foft and flow,
Amid the verdant landscape flow.
