The Reconstruction of Palestinian Nationalism: Between Revolution and Statehood

Cover
Manchester University Press, 1999 - 194 Seiten
This book deals with the urgent task of shedding light on the creation of Palestinian nationalism and national identity. It explains how Palestinian nationalism (as well as the very meaning of Palestinian national identity) is constantly being recreated, as it oscillates between the notions of "struggle" and "suffering." The book draws on official PLO documents, intifada leaflets and extensive oral history. It will add to our understanding of the formation of nationalism in general terms, in the way that it illustrates how nationalism is produced in the incessant interplay between external processes and structures and internal creative dynamics.
