Finance of the Development Fund. 66 The following statement shows the balances in (1) the Old or Ordinary Fund, and (2) the "New" or Special Fund provided by Section 3 of the Corn Production Acts (Repeal) Act, 1921, on the 1st April, 1926, and the receipts and payments during the financial year 1926-27 :— : 1. ORDINARY FUND. Against this balance. must be set grants and loans recommended, but not actually paid out of the Fund at that date. In order to meet these liabilities, to provide for advances required to meet the cost of maintaining existing schemes, and for any new schemes recommended subsequently to 31st March, 1927, the balance has been supplemented by a grant of £250,000 provided by Parliament in the Civil Services Estimates for 1927-28. 2. SPECIAL FUND. This Fund was expressly provided by the Corn Production Acts (Repeal) Act, 1921, for promoting agricultural development, including the establishment of scholarships and maintenance grants for the sons and daughters of agricultural workmen and others, and it was originally calculated to last until March, 1927. Expenditure from this Fund is limited to England and Wales, a sum of £150,000 having been paid into the Agriculture (Scotland) Fund for similar purposes in Scotland.
