THIS little work is designed as an accompaniment to the author's Latin Delectus; as his Greek Exercises, published two years ago, were to his Greek Delectus. The plan and purpose of the two are, in fact, precisely similar and to enlarge upon them in the present instance, would only be to repeat what the author has already stated In his preface to the former publication. Bromley College, Jan. 15th, 1858. LATIN EXERCISES. PART I.-ACCIDENCE. GENERAL RULES. 1. WORDS enclosed in brackets, as [than], [by], are not to be expressed in the translation. 2. The preposition "of" is never to be expressed in the translation, but the substantive to which it is attached is to be put in the genitive case: as "the virtue of the soldier", "virtus militis." 991 3. When the preposition "to" is enclosed in brackets, the substantive to which it is attached is to be put in the dative case: as "I give a book [to] the boy", " do librum puero". 4. When the prepositions "by", "from”, “in”, "on", "with", are enclosed in brackets, the substantives to which they are attached are to be put in the ablative case: as "[on] that night", " eâ nocte". 1 Except when "of" is printed in italics, in which case it s to be rendered by "de", with the ablative.
