LLOYD LIBRARY The Lloyd Library was instituted for the purpose of collecting works on Botany, Pharmacy, Materia Medica, and the allied sections in science. To this was subsequently added a herbarium of flowering plants, and a micrological museum of dried hard fungi, and of fleshy fungi preserved in alcohol. Some months ago it was determined to issue reprints of rare publications; our plan being to publish, in as nearly facsimile as possible, the rarest of the early works connected with Pharmacy, Materia Medica, and Botany, and to exchange them with Journals and Societies connected with these branches of science, and also at the nominal price of $1.00 per issue, to persons who desire them for private libraries. To this it may be added, that we propose also to contribute original matter, biographies, and portraits. Bulletin No. 1 consisted of a facsimile reproduction of Mr. Barton's rare work, "Collections for a Materia Medica of the United States," with portrait and Biography of the author. The present Bulletin carries a complete reprint in facsimile of the rarest book connected with American Pharmacy, "Dr. Peter Smith's Dispensatory," of which, as is shown in our biography, but one copy is known to be in existence. We regret very much that no portrait remains to picture the face of this interesting personage. Our third Bulletin will probably consist of a facsimile of the Materia Medica Americana, by Schoepf, the first botanical work connected with American medicinal plants.
