5. Then love's soft dew o'er every eye,
Shall shed its mildest rays,

And the long silent dust shall burst,
With shouts of endless praise.

[blocks in formation]

THE saints who now in Jesus sleep,

His own almighty power shall keep,
Till dawns the bright, illustrious day,
When death itself shall die away.
2. How loud shall our glad voices sing,
When Christ his risen saints shall bring,
From beds of dust and sleeping clay,
To realms of everlasting day!

3. When Jesus we in glory meet,
Our utmost joys shall be complete ;
When landed on that heavenly shore,
Death and the curse shall be no more.
4. Hasten, dear Lord, the glorious day,
And this delightful scene display;
When all thy saints from death shall rise,
Raptured in bliss beyond the skies.

DISMISSION AND DOXOLOGIES.

498

L. M. Dismission.

HART.

DISMISS us with thy blessing, Lord,

Help us to feed upon thy word;

All that has been amiss, forgive,
And let thy truth within us live.

2. Though we are guilty, Thou art good;
Wash all our works in Jesus' blood;
Give every fettered soul release,
And bid us all depart in peace.

SECOND PART.

C. M The same.

LORD, help us on thy word to feed,
In peace dismiss us hence;

Be thou, in every time of need,
Our refuge and defence.

2. We now desire to bless thy name,
And in our hearts record,

HART.

And with our thankful tongues proclaim
The goodness of the Lord.

THIRD PART.

8.7. The same.

NEWTON.

MAY the grace of Christ, our Saviour,
And the Father's boundless love,

With the Holy Spirit's favour,

Rest upon us from above!

2. Thus may we abide in union,
With each other and the Lord;
And possess, in sweet communion,
Joys which earth cannot afford.

L. M. Doxology.

WATTS.

FROM all that dwell below the skies,
Let the Creator's praise arise;

Let the Redeemer's name be sung,
Through every land, by every tongue.

2. Eternal are thy mercies, Lord;
Eternal truth attends thy word :

Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore,
Till suns shall rise, and set no more.

HOSANNA to the Son

Of David and of God,

WATTS

Who brought the news of pardon down,
And bought it with his blood!

To Christ, the anointed King,
Be endless blessings given;
Let the whole earth His glory sing,
Who made our peace with heaven.

GLORY to God belongs;

Glory to God be given ;
Above the noblest songs,

Of all in earth and heaven!

WESLEY.

Him Three in One, and One in Three,
Extol to all eternity!

[blocks in formation]

PRAISE God, from whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;

Praise FATHER, SON, AND HOLY GHOST!

INDEX OF FIRST LINES.

All hail! delightful morn

All hail! redeeming Lord

Almighty Father of mankind

A good High Priest is come

A

A soldier's course, from battles won
Absent from flesh! O blissful thought
Affliction is a stormy deep

Ah, vainly anxious! leave the Lord
Ah, wretched souls, who strive in vain
Alas! and did my Saviour bleed
Alas! what hourly dangers rise

Almighty King, whose wondrous hand

Although temptations threaten round
Am I a soldier of the cross
Amazing plan of sovereign love
Amid the splendours of thy state
And does the kind Redeemer stoop
And is salvation brought so near
Angels, astonished, view their God
Angels, from the realms of glory
Another day has passed along
Another six days' work is done
Arise, my soul, arise

......

Arise my soul, shake off thy fears
Arise, O King of grace, arise
As shipwrecked mariners desire
Ascend thy throne, almighty King
Ashamed of Christ! my soul disdain

Behold the amazing sight

Behold the expected time draw near

Behold the judgments of the Lord

Behold, the mountain of the Lord
Behold the path which mortals tread
Behold the Prince of peace
Behold the Saviour on the cross
Behold the sin-atoning Lamb
Behold! the Son of God appears
Behold the throne of grace
Behold what wondrous grace
Believing souls, who Jesus know
Bestow, dear Lord, upon our youth
Beyond the glittering starry skies
Blest are the humble souls that see
Blest are the souls that hear and know
Blest be that hand which from the skies
Blest be the dear uniting love
Blest be the Father and his love
Blest be the Lord, that gives his flesh
Blood has a voice to pierce the skies
Born by a new celestial birth
Bread of heaven! on thee I feed
Bright as the sun's meridian blaze
By whom shall Jacob now arise
