For the reception of the fuffixes, of the mafc. plural termination, and of the feminine plural termination or on (fee Sect. IV. No. 14.) is thrown away: terminating a feminine noun fingular must be changed into n. N. B. Feminines plural, with fuffixes, ufually take the termination mentioned, Sect. IV. No. 14. Such nouns do not change into in regimen. See Sect. IV. Sometimes a prefix, a particle, and a fuffix are all joined together; as, ND (D a prefix, л a particle, and a fuffix) from him: y, while I have a being. 9. is called local, when adhering to the end of nouns it fignifies to, towards, &c. as, ", the west, or the fea, ", to or towards the weft, &c. the east, P, towards the east, Egypt, , towards Egypt. In Hebrew, verbs are varied by conjugations, voices, modes, tenfes, numbers, perfons, and genders. 2. Hebrew verbs have three conjugations. 3. The old example of a regular Hebrew verb wasy, whence are taken the following grammatical terms: Niphal, the paffive voice of the firft conjugation, i. e. ; Hiphil, the active voice of the fecond conjugation, i. e. ; Hophal, the paffive voice of the fecond conjugation, i. e. and Hithpael, the third conjugation, i. e. yon. N. B. The Hebrew words, in thefe inftances, are pronounced according to the Maforetical points. ; 4. The active voice of the first conjugation is called Kal (p, light), because, in the preter, it is burdened with no letter at the beginning. 5. The fignification of a verb in Kal is ufually active, or neuter; as, p, he visited: it is, however, fometimes paffive. Niphal is the paffive of Kal: but verbs in Niphal fometimes have an active signifi cation. 6. Verbs in Hiphil generally fignify to cause another to do a thing; as, p, he caused another to vifit. Hiphil has fometimes the fignification of Kal. Hophal is the paffive of Hiphil; and fignifies to be caused to do, or to be done; as, p, he was made to vifit. 7. A verb in Hithpael commonly fignifies to act upon one's felf; as, pon, he made himself to vifit. It has, fometimes, a paffive fignification. 8.
