"The heavenly Jerusalem."

IIb. xii. 22.

WHILE we on earth are raising
Our tuneful voices high,

The heavenly hosts are praising
The Saviour in the sky.
We cannot sing so sweet!y
As angels do above;
Yet we'll endeavour meekly
To celebrate His love.

2 Oh, when shall we triumphant
Our Lord and King behold,
And walk, with hearts exultant,
The streets of shining gold;
And swell the i issful chorus

Of happy saints above,

Who reached their home before us
And sing and praise and love?

3 Lord, fit us to inherit

The glory and the throne;

And through the Saviour's merit,
Receive us as Thine own.

May we possess that treasure
Unfolded in Thy word,

And find seraphic pleasure
For ever with the Lord.

[blocks in formation]

And for saints whose good deeds are unsung;

But oh, say is it true, if their days are but few,

That a crown is laid up for the young?

Yes, yes, yes, I know there's a crown for the young;

If their lives daily prove that the Saviour they love,

I know there's a crown for the young.

2 The youthful shall stand in that beautiful land

While the song of salvation they sing,

And the infant of days strike its harp in the praise

Of Emmanuel, its Saviour and King.
Yes, yes, yes, I know, &c.

And the keen east winds never blow; And they feel not the glow of the summer heat,

Nor the chill of the winter snow.
'Tis heaven, sweet heaven, that
beautiful land:

There's nothing on earth
Of true beauty or worth

To compare with the beautiful
land.

2 There is many a child in that beautiful land,

We have brothers and sisters there: And they dwell with the angels, a happy band,

Their glory and joy to share.

'Tis heaven, sweet heaven, &c.

3 There was never a tear in that beautiful land,

There was never a mourner seen; The people in pure white raiment stand

In the fields that are always green. "Tis heaven, sweet heaven, &c.

4 And Jesus lives in that beautiful land, And He says to the children, Come: And sometimes He takes them from our band,

5

To dwell in that beautiful home.

'Tis heaven, sweet heaven, &c. And if Jesus shall help me by His

а Friend for little children,

Above the bright blue sky,
A Friend who never changes,
Whose love will never die :
Unlike our friends by nature,
Who change with changing years,
This Friend is always worthy

Of that dear name He bears.

2 There's a Rest for little children,
Above the bright blue sky,
Who loved the blessed Saviour,
And to His Father cry;
A rest from every trouble,
From sin and danger free,
Where every little pilgrim
Shall rest eternally

8 There's a Home for little children,
Above the bright blue sky,
Where Jesus reigns in glory,
A home of peace and joy;
No home on earth is like it,
Nor can with it compare;
For every one is happy,

Nor could be happier, there.

4 There's a Crown for little children,
Above the bright blue sky,
And all who look for Jesus
Shall wear it by and by;
A crown of brightest glory,

Which He will then bestow
On those who love the Saviour

And walk with Him below.

5 There's a Song for little children,
Above the bright blue sky,
A song that will not weary,
Though sung continually;
A song which even angels
Can never, never sing;
They know not Christ as Saviour,
But worship Him as King.

6 There's a Robe for little children,
Above the bright blue sky;
And a harp of sweetest music,
And palms of victory.

All, all above is treasured,

And found in Christ alone:
O come, dear little children,
That all may be your own.

1 THERE'S a beautiful land on high, To its glories I fain would fly: When by sorrows pressed down, I long for my crown,

In that beautiful land on high.

In that beautiful land I shall be From earth and its cares set free, For Jesus is there, He's gone to prepare

A place in that land for me.

2 There's a beautiful land on high,
I shall enter it by and by;

There with friends, hand in hand, I shall walk on the strand,

In that beautiful land on high.
In that beautiful land, &c.

3 There's a beautiful land on high, Then why should I fear to die, When death is the way to the bright realms of day,

In that beautiful land on high?
In that beautiful land, &c.

4 There's a beautiful land on high, And my kindred its bliss enjoy; And methinks I now see they are waiting for me

In that beautiful land on high.

In that beautiful land, &c.

5 There's a beautiful land on high, Where we never shall weep nor sigh, For the Father hath said no tear shall be shed

In that beautiful land on high.

In that beautiful land, &c.

6 There's a beautiful land on high, Where we never shall say "Goodbye,"

Where the righteous will sing, and their chorus will ring

In that beautiful land on high.

"When shall I come and appear before God?"-Ps. xlii. 2.

SHALL we gather at the river,

Where bright angel feet have trod,

With its crystal tide for ever
Flowing by the throne of God?

Yes, we'll gather at the river,

The beautiful, the beautiful river: Gather with the saints at the river, That flows by the throne of God.

2 On the margin of the river,

Washing up its silver spray, We will walk and worship ever, All the happy golden day.

Yes, we'll gather, &c.
3 Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we every burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,

And provide a robe and crown.
Yes, we'll gather, &c.

4 At the smiling of the river,
Mir or of the Saviour's face,
Saints, whom death will never sever,
Lift their songs of saving grace.
Yes, we'll gather, &c.

5 Soon we'll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease;
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.

"The Paradise of God."-
Rev. ii. 7.

10 PARADISE, O Paradise,

Who doth not crave for rest? Who would not seek the happy land Where they that love are blest? Where loyal hearts and true Stand ever in the light, All rapture through and through, In God's most holy sight?

2 0 Paradise, O Paradise,

The world is growing old;
Who would not be at rest and free
Where love is never cold?

Where loyal hearts and true, &c.

3 O Paradise, O Paradise,

'Tis weary waiting here:
I long to be where Jesus is,
To feel, to see Him near;
Where loyal hearts and true, &c.

4 O Paradise, O Paradise,

I want to sin no more,

I want to be as pure on earth
As on Thy spotless shore;

Where loyal hearts and true, &c.

5 0 Paradise, O Paradise, I greatly long to see

HEAVEN, sweet heaven,

The home of the blest,

Where hearts, once in trouble,
Are ever at rest;

Where eyes that could see not
Rejoice in the light,
And beggars, made princes,
Are walking in white.

2 O heaven, sweet heaven,
Where purity reigns,
Where error disturbs not,
And sin never stains;
Where holiness robes in
I's garments so fair
The great multitude
That is worshipping there.

3 O heaven, sweet heaven,
Whose music ne'er dies,
But rich, pealing anthems
Of glory arise;

Whose saints with one feeling
Of rapture are stirred,
And loud hallelujahs

For ever are heard.

4 O heaven, sweet heaven,
Where friends never part,
But cords of true friendship
Bind firmly the heart;
Where farewell shall never
More fall on the ear,
Nor eyes that have sorrowed
Be dimmed with a tear.
5 O heaven, sweet heaven,
The mansion of love,
Where Christ in His beauty
Shines forth from above,
The Lamb, with His sceptre,
To charm and control;
And love is the sea

That encircles the whole.

BEAUTEOUS scenes on earth appear, Scenes to sight and memory dear, Mountains, valleys, rivers, streams, Landscapes bright with sunny beams; But a better world by far

Is beyond the farthest star.

2 Many happy homes are found-
Homes of peace-on British ground;
And our fatherland we love,
Free and bless'd by God above;
But more happy homes by far
Are beyond the farthest star.
3 Balmy is the Sabbath air,
Precious is the place of prayer;
Glad we in this temple praise
Him who helps us all our days;
But a temple better far
Is beyond the farthest star.
4 Joy and gladness fill this place,
When we see the Saviour's face,
As He thus fulfils His word,-
I am with you, saith the Lord;
But our clearest vision far
Is beyond the farthest star.
5 Oh, that here with fervent zeal
We may do the Saviour's will,
And at length, with ardent love,
Join to swell the choir above;
We shall happier be by far
When beyond the farthest star.

Crown for the valiant, to weary ones rest;

God shall be All and in all ever blest. 2 What are the Monarch, His Court, and His Throne?

What are the peace and the joy that they own?

Oh that the blest ones, who in it have share,

All that they feel could as fully declare! 3 Truly Jerusalem name we that shore, Vision of peace that brings joy ever

"Neither sorrow, nor crying."Rev. xxi. 4.

1 OH for the robes of whiteness!

Oh for the tearless eyes!
Oh for the glorious brightness
Of the unclouded skies!
2 Oh for the no more weeping
Within the land of love,
The endless joy of keeping
The bridal feast above!
3 Oh for the bliss of dying
My risen Lord to meet!
Oh for the rest of lying
For ever at His feet!
4 Oh for the hour of seeing
My Saviour face to face,
The hope of ever being

In that sweet meeting-place! 5 Jesus, Thou King of Glory,

I soon shall dwell with Thee;
I soon shall sing the story
Of Thy great love to me.

6 Meanwhile my thoughts shall enter
E'en now before Thy throne,
That all my love may centre
On Thee, and Thee alone.

Heaven throughout with praises ringing,

Worthy the Lamb;

Worthy the Lamb.

2 Every kindred, tongue, and nation,
Worthy the Lamb;

Join to sing the great salvation,
Worthy the Lamb;

Loud as mighty thunder roaring,
Floods of mighty water pouring,
Prostrate at His feet adoring,

Worthy the Lamb.

3 Harps and songs for ever sounding
Worthy the Lamb;

Mighty grace o'er sin abounding,
Worthy the Lamb;

By His blood He dearly bought us,
Wandering from the fold He sought us,
And to glory safely brought us,
Worthy the Lamb.

4 Sing with blest anticipation,
Worthy the Lamb;

Through the vale of tribulation,
Worthy the Lamb ;

Sweetest notes, all notes excelling,
On the theme for ever dwelling,
Still untold, though ever telling,
Worthy the Lamb.
