CHILD'S EVENING HYMN.

Now the day is over,

Night is drawing nigh, Shadows of the evening Steal across the sky.

Now the darkness gathers,
Stars begin to peep,

Birds, and beasts, and flowers
Soon will be asleep.

Jesu, give the weary

Calm and sweet repose, With Thy tenderest blessing May our eyelids close.

Grant to little children
Visions bright of Thee,
Guard the sailors tossing
On the deep blue sea.

Comfort every sufferer
Watching late in pain,
Those who plan some evil
From their sin restrain.

Through the long night-watches May Thine angels spread Their white wings above me, Watching round my bed.

When the morning wakens,

Then may I arise

Pure and fresh and sinless
In Thy holy eyes.

Glory to the Father,
Glory to the Son,

And to Thee, blest Spirit,

Whilst all ages run.

Amen.

LIFE MOSAIC.

Master, to do great work for Thee, my hand
Is far too weak! Thou givest what may suit-
Some little chips to cut with care minute,
Or tint, or grave, or polish. Others stand
Before their quarried marble fair and grand,
And make a life-work of the great design
Which Thou hast traced; or, many-skilled, com-
bine

To build vast temples, gloriously planned.

Yet take the tiny stones which I have wrought, Just one by one, as they were given by Thee, Not knowing what came next in Thy wise thought.

Set each stone by Thy master-hand of grace,

Form the Mosaic as Thou wilt for me,

And in Thy temple-pavement give it place.

[blocks in formation]

"Jesus only!" In the shadow
Of the cloud so chill and dim,
We are clinging, loving, trusting,
He with us, and we with Him ;
All unseen, though ever nigh,
"Jesus only "—all our cry.

II.

"Jesus only!" In the glory, When the shadows all are flown, Seeing Him in all His beauty, Satisfied with Him alone; May we join His ransomed throng, "Jesus only"-all our song!

ASCENSION SONG.

"He ascended up on high."-Eph. iv., 8.

Golden harps are sounding,

Angel voices ring,
Pearly gates are opened-

Opened for the King;
Christ, the King of Glory,
Jesus, King of Love,
Is gone up in triumph

To His throne above.

All his work is ended,
Joyfully we sing,
Jesus hath ascended!
Glory to our King!

He who came to save us,
He who bled and died,
Now is crowned with glory
At His Father's side,
Never more to suffer,
Never more to die ;
Jesus, King of Glory,
Is gone up on high.
All His work is ended,
Joyfully we sing,
Jesus hath ascended!
Glory to our King!

Praying for His children
In that blessed place,
Calling them to glory,

Sending them His grace; His bright home preparing, Faithful ones, for you; Jesus ever liveth,

Ever loveth too.

All His work is ended,

Joyfully we sing,

Jesus hath ascended!

Glory to our King!

WHOSE I AM.

Jesus, Master, whose I am,
Purchased Thine alone to be,
By Thy blood, O spotless Lamb,
Shed so willingly for me;
Let my heart be all Thine own,
Let me live to Thee alone.

Other lords have long held sway ;
Now, Thy name alone to bear,
Thy dear voice alone obey,

Is my daily, hourly prayer.

Whom have I in heaven but Thee?
Nothing else my joy can be.

Jesus, Master! I am Thine;

Keep me faithful, keep me near;
Let Thy presence in me shine

All my homeward way to cheer.
Jesus! at Thy feet I fall,

Oh, be Thou my All-in-All!

CONSECRATION HYMN.

"Here we offer and present unto Thee, O Lord, ourselves, our souls, and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy, and living sacrifice unto Thee."

Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.

Take my moments and my days;
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
