Has given illustrated lectures on botanical subjects before the Brooklyn Institute, under the auspices of Columbia University, at the American Museum, at the Botanical Gardens and elsewhere in New York City; also at Montreal, Albany, Poughkeepsie and other places. His lectures on flowers have been illustrated by lantern slides, which were made by himself from the original flowers, and colored by his wife. (Son of Cornelius Van Cott.) Educated in public schools. Member of the firm of G. & R. Van Cott. Holds a confidential position in the New York City Post Office under his father, who is Postmaster. Represented the Fifth District in the Assembly for one term. Nominated by the Republican party for member of Congress from the Eighth District, 1900.
