RATHBONE, JOHN FINLEY-Manufacturer, Albany. Born in Albany, Oct. 12, 1819. Educated at Albany Academy. Built a foundry at Albany in 1845 for the manufacture of stoves, which has become the largest of its kind in the world. Was brigadier-general commanding the 9th Brigade National Guard New York from 1861 to 1867, and was adjutant-general, with the rank of major-general, on the staff of Governor John A. Dix. Donated money for the building of the Rathbone Library at the University of Rochester and was one of the founders of the Albany Orphan Asylum.
