NUMBERS ENGAGED IN INDUSTRY-GREAT BRITAIN. No. 65.-NUMBERS AGED 10 YEARS and upwards in GREAT BRITAIN, each CENSUS, (Compiled from the Census Reports for NOTE. This table has been constructed to indicate in a very general manner the fluctuations of the numbers engaged in each industry shown. In using the table the figures for the years 1881-1901 must be compared with those in the first column for the year 1911, and those in the second column of the year 1911 must be used for comparison with 1921. Owing to radical changes which have been made in the method of classification only very rough comparisons can be made. The figures for 1881-1911 (first column) exclude maintenance staff, clerks, carmen, and certain other occupations common to all industries. The figures for 1911 (second column) and 1921 include all persons engaged in the industry. The numbers are given to the nearest thousand. The Toportions engaged have been calculated on the actual numbers. NUMBERS ENGAGED IN INDUSTRY-GREAT BRITAIN. and PROPORTIONS, ENGAGED in the PRINCIPAL INDUSTRY GROUPS at from 1881 to 1921.
