(1) The Bethlehem spoken of here, was called Bethlehem Ephrata, an Bethlehem in the Land of Judah, so that here is no inconfiftency betwix what the Prophet Micah fays, and what is here recorded. As to th seeming Contradiction about the excent of the Place, it is thus reconci led. The Prophet speaks of the Place it self, which was but little i coinjarison of many others in the holy Land; but here it is said no: 1 be litile, because it was the place where our Lord, the Redeemer 'uf Man kind, was born ; or if, according to others, the Hebrew Word, whichi rendered listle, be taken a dverbially, the feeming Opposition is quite re moved. For then the sense of the Place will be, And thou Bethlehen Ephraia, it is but little, or, it is a small matters that thou art among ia thonjana's of Judab ; for out, &c.

young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word · for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 14. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and (1.) departed into Egypt: 15. And was there until the Death of Herod : that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the Prophet, saying, Out of Egypt • have I called my Son. 16. Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wile men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and p flew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of

17. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by · Jeremy the Prophet, saying, 18. In Rama was there å Voice heard, lamentation and weeping and great n:ourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not. 19. (1) Mr. Eachard, Eccl. Hist. p. 36. has the following remarkable Paf, fage. At our Lord's first arrival in Egypt, as may be colle&ted from Eufebius and Athanafius, he was by design, or providence, carried into

Temple at Hermopolis, in the Province of Thebais, at whose Presence the Idol Gods fell down, like Dagon before the Ark, and suffered their timely and just dissolution, which remarkably verified a prophecy of laiab

, Chap. 19. 1. that the Lord should come into fgypt, and the idols of Egypt should be moved at his presence.

Land of Israel ; for they are 's dead which fought the young child's life. 21. And he ärose, and took the

young child and his mother, and came into the Land of Israel 22. But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judea, in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to gothither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream; he turned aside into the Parts of Galilee 23. And he came and dwelt in a City called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was s spoken by the prophets, ! He fhall be called a Nazarene.
