T H E many troubles, and the Expensive

Law-Suits, about a litigious Church, for many Years, and concerning the Nicety of a Qualification, have been the Occafion of my Writing this little Tract: That by my Falls, and Misfortunes, others may fecure themselves, for the Future, and make a joyful Proclamation of that old Verle, viz. Falix quem faciunt aliena pericula cautum. If a Young Clergy-man has a Presentation to a Benefice, and reads the Books call'd, The Parfon's Law; Repertorium Canonicum: And alfo Dr. Watfon's compleat Incumbent; he may come short of being a Qualify'd Incumbent for those worthy Authors, do Treat more of Cases in Law, and Reports, than they do, concerning a Qualify'd Incumbent. And befides, thofe Books are Dear; and many honeft Clergy-men, (especially in Wales) can fcarce fpare fo much Money as will buy one of

them. And therefore have I compos'd this lit-tle Treatife, wherein a Clergy-man may find every thing, that is neceffary for that purpose, ready at hand; which if he follows, it will make him a Compleat Qualify'd Incumbent ; and fpare him Money, and prevent the hazards of lofing his Living. Tho' my Endeavours are fmall; yet they are fincerely defign'd for Safety, and Advantage to all, that fhall hereafter have any Ecclefiaftical Promotions. And for that Reason, I am great with Hopes, you will favourably, and kindly accept of Them, which I humbly commit, and commend to you." And Subfcribe my felf,
