H. N. WINANS'

Anti-Incrustation Powder,

FOR CLEANING STEAM BOILERS.

11 WALL STREET, or P. O. BOX 6,

NEW YORK.

This valuable invention has been in successful operation 18 YEARS, which fact alone proves its Utility, Safety and Cheapness.

Cost 35 Cents per Lb., or 10 to 20 Cents a Day.

BEWARE OF NUMEROUS IMITATIONS AND FRAUDS.

R. Aleshire & Co., Gallipolis, Ohio, January, 1873, say: Our engineer has "graduated," got enough of new powders, and returns to his "first love"; therefore, send another barrel at once.

This article is guaranteed to keep a boiler permanently clean as long as properly and persistently used, and is sure to effect a saving of three times its cost; the least possible crust, say 1-16 inch, compels a waste of 15% of fuel; of course this excess of heat destroys the bottom plates of the boiler, invites corrosion, repairs, and probable explosions.

References by the Thousand, almost Anywhere.

Gaylord & Co., Portsmouth, Ohio, running 12 boilers, have used it steadily 15 years-2500 to 3000 pounds a year, one barrel a month.

What better evidence is needed of VALUE, ECONOMY and SAFETY.

Largely Sold in China, Cuba, California, Chili, Peru, Brazil,
and the United States generally.

THE WIARD

Steam Boiler Attachment,

AN ABSOLUTE PREVENTIVE

OF

BOILER EXPLOSIONS,

AND

Fires Resulting from Super-Heated Steam.

APPLICABLE TO ALL KINDS OF BOILERS.

23 DEY STREET, NEW YORK.

First.

THE ADVANTAGES OF THIS MACHINE ARE:

It is AUTOMATIC, without moving parts, certain of operation, without attention; has not the slightest liability to get out of repair; in fact, no more so than a steam pipe.

Second.

Third.

IT ABSOLUTELY PREVENTS EXPLOSIONS, RUPTURES,
AND LEAKS OF BOILErs, howeVER LOW THE WATER
MAY BE, AND RETARDS LOCAL OXIDIZING.

It absolutely prevents all FIRES which result from SUPERHEATED
STEAM, now well known to be the prolific CAUSE OF CONFLA-
GRATIONS.

Fourth.

Fifth.

IT SAVES FROM TEN TO TWENTY PER CENT OF ALL THE FUEL used in generating steam, by steadily causing dry steamneither superheated nor surcharged with water-to be furnished to the engine. Thus less feed water is required, and obviously less fuel.

By its operation the loose sediment is FREQUENTLY DISCHARGED, by which the boiler is cleaned, and kept clean, without the necessity of blowing out the hot water and filling up again with cold water.

Sixth.

IT WILL SAVE OVER ONE-HALF OF ALL THE REPAIRS TO BOILERS, by keeping all parts of the iron, the water, and the steam at a practically equal temperature. Thus the strains of unequal expansion and contraction are avoided.

Seventh.

Eighth.

Ninth.

It will more than DOUBLE the time a boiler will last in a perfectly serviceable condition.

IT WILL SAVE a large proportION OF THE REPAIRS TO THE ENGINE. By insuring dry steam, not surcharged with water, no loose sediment or grit is carried over to cut the valves, piston or cylinder, and no solid water is presented between the piston and cylinder heads to cause pounding, to break or derange the head or flanges of the cylinder or other parts of the engine.

It may save a large proportion of the oil used for lubricating the cylinder and valves of the engine. In fact, all devices for supplying oil to cylinders of high pressure engines may be safely abolished, as the Boiler Attachment will insure the supply of the best quality of steam for lubrication; and steam, neither superheated nor surcharged with water, is the best kind of a lubricator, and is always present at the time and place it is required.

While the

WIARD STEAM BOILER ATTACHMENT

was founded upon the idea or theory that EXPLOSIONS, RUPTURES, AND LEAKS OF STEAM BOILERS were caused by unequally heating or cooling the different parts of the boiler, it will absolutely prevent such accidents or injury to the boilers on which it may be applied, even upon the supposition that any other theory ever advanced or advocated is or may be the correct one.

No person, since it was invented, has been ingenious enough to invent or suggest any possible way to injure a boiler on which it has been applied.

While we will undertake to explode or destroy any boiler whatever, even with the safety valves in good order, and without over-pressure on which the attachment is not applied, and with only the ordinary fires, we defy any engineer to injure a boiler in the slightest degree on which it is applied, either by subjecting it to the same conditions or any other, except disarranging the safety valve.
